Trimco TRI-1001-4x20.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Trimco 1001 push plate work on a door with a cylinder or a night latch in the way?
Yes. The 1001 heavy duty push plate is offered with a cut for cylinder option, so the plate can be prepped to clear a cylinder rather than forcing you to move the plate off center. If what you actually need is a pull that grips around the cylinder instead of a flat plate, the Cal-Royal PUL-175 night latch cylinder pull is the other way to handle that opening.
2) What handle goes on the pull side of a door that has a 4 inch by 20 inch heavy duty push plate on the other face?
The Trimco 1001-4 covers the push side only, so the pull side takes a separate handle. The Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight door pull, 1 inch round, with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull using a 3/4 inch round bar with 1-1/2 inch clearance. The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end commercial door pull at 1.00 inch diameter, and the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull, 7/8 inch diameter, with through bolt mounting. Matching finish across the two pieces is the usual specification step.
3) The opening needs a cylinder through the trim. Is a plate with a cylinder cut the right call, or a night latch pull?
Two different approaches. The Trimco 1001 heavy duty push plate is offered with a cut for cylinder option, which keeps the flat plate on the face and passes the cylinder through it. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, stainless steel construction, which gives a graspable pull built around the cylinder instead of a flat plate. Choose the plate where the hand pushes and the night latch pull where the hand has to draw the door open.
4) Is .050 inch stainless steel thick enough for a school corridor door?
That is the heavy duty gauge in Trimco's 1001 line, and the substrate here is stainless steel. The application list is exactly that traffic profile: schools, public buildings and facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military, multifamily and mixed-use. All four edges are pencil beveled, so there is no raw edge for a hand or a cart to catch as it goes by.
5) What is the 710CU Steralloy finish on the Trimco push plate, and should I spec it for a hospital?
710CU Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver is Trimco's copper-bearing finish option, and the 1001-4 carries the Healthy Hardware designation. It is the finish to look at where the touch surface itself is part of the infection-control conversation, which is why it shows up on healthcare and food service specs. If that is not a driver on your job, the other nine finishes cover the standard architectural range.
6) What finish do I order to match satin chrome levers already on the building?
626 Satin Chrome is the match, and it is one of ten finishes the 1001-4 push plate comes in: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 613E Dark Oxidized Satin Bronze, 622 Matte Black, 626 Satin Chrome, 628 Satin Aluminum, 629 Bright Stainless Steel, 630 Satin Stainless Steel, and 710CU Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver. If the existing hardware is 630 rather than 626, take 630 instead, since satin stainless and satin chrome read differently side by side on the same door.
7) Should I use a push plate or a door pull on the push side of the door?
A push plate like the Trimco 1001-4 goes on the push side, where nobody needs to grip anything, and its job is to take the hand and cart traffic off the door face. The pull side needs an actual handle: an offset pull such as the Ives 8145EZ, or a straight bar pull like the Ives 8103HD with through bolt mounting. On a typical commercial opening you order both, plate on one face and pull on the other, and they get through bolted to each other on some installs.
8) Is a push plate the same thing as a door pull, and does the Trimco 1001-4 come with a handle?
No handle. The 1001-4 is a flat plate that mounts to the door face, nothing to grab. Buyers who need something to pull on are looking at a different part entirely, such as the Deltana SSP1210 12 inch contemporary pull or the ABH AB3300 straight flat end pull at 1 inch diameter. Order the plate for the push side and a pull separately if the opening needs both.
9) The door face is congested and a flat plate will not clear. What offset hardware works instead?
A flat plate like the Trimco 1001-4 sits tight to the door face with no standoff. Where the hand needs clearance off the face, the offset options are the ABH AB3310 offset flat end door pull, commercial grade surface mount, the ABH AB3330 offset round end pull with custom length options, and the Ives 8169 C style offset solid door pull at 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting. The AB3330 custom length route parallels Trimco's custom size program on the 1001 plates when a standard size does not land where the hand does.
10) We want matching hardware on both faces of the door mounted through it. Does a push plate do that?
No. The Trimco 1001-4 is a single face plate applied to the push side with oval head screws supplied as standard. For hardware that lands on both faces of the same door as one set, the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull supplied as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch thick, and the Deltana SSPOBB24 and SSPORBB24 are 24 inch back-to-back door pulls, modern offset and round offset respectively. Those give a grip on each face; the push plate gives a wear surface on one.
11) I need a 4 x 20 push plate but my door needs an odd size. Can Trimco make it?
Custom sizes are made in the 1001 Series, along with plastic push plates in 1/8 inch material as an alternative to metal. The catalog standard sizes are 3 x 12, 3-1/2 x 15, 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16, and the 1001-4 covered here is the 4 x 20. Material choices across the series are stainless steel, brass, bronze or aluminum at .050 inch.
