Trimco TRI-1012-2.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What plate sizes does the Trimco 1012 pull plate come in?
Two standard plate sizes: 3-1/2 x 15 inches and 4 x 16 inches. The 3-1/2 inch width is the one to use on narrower stiles or where a lockset or exit device trim crowds the plate; the 4 x 16 gives more coverage on a flush wood or hollow metal door. Trimco also makes the 1012 in custom plate sizes if neither standard fits the opening.
2) What is the closest heavy duty alternative to the Trimco 1012 pull plate?
The Ives 8302 heavy duty pull plate with through bolt mounting and the Ives 8303 heavy duty pull plate are both carried at the same heavy duty level as the Trimco 1012. The 8303 is built around 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, while the Trimco 1012 uses a cast tapered 5-1/2 inch center-to-center pull. If the door schedule calls for a wider grip spread, the 8303 covers it; if the 5-1/2 inch CTC grip is what is specified, stay with the 1012.
3) I need a matching push plate to pair with the Trimco 1012 pull plate on the opposite face of the door. What are my options?
The Trimco 1012 is a pull plate only, with a cast tapered 5-1/2 inch CTC grip on a 3-1/2 x 15 inch or 4 x 16 inch plate. For the push side, Delaney offers a 3-1/2 x 15 inch push plate and a 4 x 16 inch push plate in the same two plate footprints, so the pair reads consistently across the door. Emtek's Knoxville, Modern and Petal series are each sold as push and pull plate sets if you want both faces from one decorative line.
4) How far does the Trimco 1012 pull stick out from the door face?
Projection is 2 inches. That matters on a pair of doors in a tight vestibule, next to a wall return, or where the door swings past an adjacent leaf, since the grip is what will strike first. Check the 2 inch clearance before you set the plate height.
5) What finishes can I get the Trimco 1012 in, and can I match the rest of my building?
Seven finishes across both plate sizes: 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel, and 630 satin stainless steel. For a commercial building standardized on satin chrome or satin stainless, 626 and 630 are the usual match to existing levers and exit trim. Custom finishes are also made in this series if you are matching something outside that list.
6) Do I need a push plate on the other side to go with the 1012 pull plate?
On a swing door, yes, standard practice is a pull plate on the pull side and a matching push plate on the push side. The 1012 is the pull half only. Order the push plate separately in the same size and finish so the pair reads as a set.
7) Is there a plain pull plate option if I do not need the cast tapered grip?
For a simpler, lower cost plate in the same footprint, Delaney makes pull plates in both 3-1/2 x 15 inch and 4 x 16 inch, and matching push plates in the same two sizes. The Trimco 1012 is the heavier specification: cast grip, .050 inch plate, pencil beveled edges, ADA compliant pull.
8) Can I use the Trimco 1012 pull plate on a door with an exit device?
The Trimco 1012 is a general purpose commercial pull plate and is not built to a specific exit device trim pattern. For a door running a Detex Value Series exit device, the Detex P/PN Series pull plate is the plate made for that application. Use the 1012 where the pull is independent of the exit device hardware.
9) Is there a simpler pull plate in the same 3-1/2 x 15 and 4 x 16 sizes?
Delaney makes a 3-1/2 x 15 inch door pull plate and a 4 x 16 inch door pull plate in the same two standard footprints the Trimco 1012 uses. The Trimco 1012 differs in that it combines the plate with a cast tapered 5-1/2 inch CTC ADA compliant grip and carries a heavy duty rating with a 2 inch projection.
10) Is the Trimco 1012 built for commercial traffic or is it a residential trim?
Commercial, and rated heavy duty. Trimco lists it for commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, retail, hospitality, and multifamily. If you are trimming a residential or light decorative door, an Emtek Knoxville or Modern push and pull plate set is the decorative route instead.
11) What is the Trimco 1012 actually made up of?
It is a factory-assembled combination: the 1001 Series plate with an 1109 Series grip mounted to it. So if you already spec Trimco 1001 plates elsewhere in the building, the 1012 keeps the same plate profile and adds the cast tapered pull.
