Trimco TRI-1099RG.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Trimco 1099RG anti-vandal pull work with a BEST small format interchangeable core lock?
That is exactly what the 1099RG is machined for. It is the version of Trimco's 1090 Series anti-vandal pull mated to a BEST or PDQ SFIC cylindrical lock, so the cylinder prep lines up with that lockset. No cores or keys come with it, so the SFIC core has to be supplied and keyed separately. If your lock takes a large format interchangeable core instead, the 1099RGL is the one prepped for PDQ LFIC cylindrical locks.
2) What is the difference between the Trimco 1099RG and the 1098RG?
Astragal. The 1098RG is the version with an astragal, and the 1099RG is the same anti-vandal pull without one. Both are prepped for BEST/PDQ SFIC cylindrical locks. On a pair of doors or where you need to cover the gap at the edge of a single outswing door, the astragal version is the one to specify; on a standard single opening the 1099RG is enough.
3) Does this pull actually stop someone chaining or wrenching the door shut?
That is the reason the 1090 Series exists. The design prevents attack on the exterior cylinder with a wrench or pliers, and there is no exposed handle, loop, or fastener for a rope, chain, or hook to be attached to or pulled off. It is used on perimeter doors at schools, parks, and public buildings for that reason.
4) Can I use a Trimco 1090 Series anti-vandal pull with an exit device instead of a cylindrical lock?
The series mates to exit devices, mortise locks, or cylindrical locks, and there are models for inswing and outswing doors. The 1099RG specifically is the cylindrical version, cut for a BEST or PDQ SFIC lock. If your door has a rim exit device or a mortise lock, you need the 1090 Series model prepped for that hardware rather than this one.
5) Do I get the cylinder core and keys with the Trimco 1099RG?
No cores or keys are supplied. The pull comes prepped for the BEST/PDQ small format interchangeable core, and you supply the core keyed to your existing system. That is usually what a locksmith or facility wants anyway, since it keeps the opening on the building master.
6) Is the Trimco 1099RG pull ADA compliant?
Trimco states the 1090 Series pulls provide an ADA complying door pull, and one that no rope or hook can be attached to. That combination is what gets them onto egress and perimeter doors in schools and public buildings where both accessibility and vandal resistance are required.
7) What material and finish does the 1099RG anti-vandal pull come in?
Construction is 1/8 inch type 316 stainless steel standard, with bronze and brass also offered in the series. The 1099RG is supplied in 630 satin stainless steel. Type 316 is the marine-grade stainless, which is why these hold up on exterior perimeter doors and coastal sites.
8) Will the metal pull get too hot or too cold to grab on an exterior door?
The 1096, 1097, 1098 and 1099 models carry a Plasticol coating that insulates the pull against heat and cold. On a south-facing exterior door in summer or a northern entry in winter, that is the difference between a usable grip and a bare stainless bar.
9) Is there a template for drilling the door for the 1099RG?
Trimco publishes template T19721, which covers the 1098RG, 1098RGL, 1099RG and 1099RGL together. Pull that before you prep the door, since all four share the template but differ in cylinder prep.
10) Where does the 1099RG pull get specified on a building?
Perimeter and exterior openings are the use case: commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, K-12 schools, universities, hospitality, office buildings, and retail or strip malls. It is a commercial-grade item, not residential trim.
11) What does hold back mean on the Trimco 1099RG order?
The 1099RG is offered with or without hold back, so it is a choice you make on the order. Hold back lets the latch be held retracted for periods when the opening needs to stay unlocked, which matters on school and office entries during business hours.
