Trimco TRI-1270WX.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the concave and convex Trimco 1270 wall bumpers, and which one should I order?
The 1270WX is the wrought bumper with the concave (cupped) rubber face; the wrought convex face is the WV version of the same stop. Pick by what actually hits the wall. A round knob or the rounded end of a lever seats down into a cupped face and stays there. Where the contact is flat, a flat lever paddle or the door face itself, the convex bumper gives you a full face to strike. Either way it is the same metal-encased rubber body, and both ship with the combination fastener pack.
2) We keep having the rubber pulled out of our wall stops. Does the Trimco 1270WX hold up to that?
The rubber on the 1270WX is not just seated in the housing, there is a heavy steel washer cast inside the bumper itself. That is what stops someone grabbing the rubber and twisting or prying it out of the metal cup, which is the usual failure on a plain rubber-tipped stop in a corridor or lobby. Combined with the metal encasement, it is built against vandalism and unauthorized removal rather than just against the door.
3) Is the Trimco 1270WX the right wall stop for a school corridor or a detention housing unit?
For either of those, go to the tamper resistant models instead. Schools are served by the 1270CVSV and 1270CXSV, which are surface mounted. Detention work takes the 1270CVPV or 1270CXPV, which add an anti-rotation pin so the stop cannot be spun off the wall. The 1270WX is the standard wrought concave bumper, fine for offices, retail, hospitality and multifamily corridors, but it does not carry those anti-removal features.
4) Does the Trimco 1270WX wall bumper come with anchors, or do I supply my own fasteners for drywall and masonry?
Fasteners are included. Each 1270WX comes with a combination fastener pack put together to cover a variety of installation conditions rather than one wall type, so anchors are not a separate line on the order. On a multi-opening rollout, match the pack against the wall construction you are actually drilling into before the crew mobilizes.
5) Trimco 1270 stops come in wrought and cast. What am I actually choosing between?
The WX suffix means wrought; the concave bumper is also built on a cast body as the CX version. Both are the same metal-encased rubber stop in the 1270 Series, both come with the combo fastener pack, and both are offered in most architectural finishes. The difference that decides most orders is what else is on the menu: the surface mounted school versions and the prison versions with the anti-rotation pin are cast models (CVSV, CXSV, CVPV, CXPV), so a job that needs those goes cast rather than wrought.
6) What finishes does the Trimco 1270WX wall bumper come in, and can I match it to the hardware already in my building?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 629 bright stainless steel and 630 satin stainless steel. Those are BHMA finish numbers, the same numbering on your lockset and hinge schedule, so you match by number instead of by eye. If the building standard is 626 satin chrome, 630 is the usual commercial pairing for it.
7) What BHMA designation does the Trimco 1270WX carry for a hardware submittal?
BHMA L02101/L0225 is the designation on the 1270WX, and it is a commercial grade product, so it goes on a commercial hardware schedule under those numbers. If the spec writer called out an L-series wall stop by BHMA number, that is the line to check it against.
8) Is there a mounting template for laying out Trimco 1270 series wall stops?
Trimco publishes template T18954, and it covers the CV, CVPV, CVSV, CX, CXPV, CXSV, WV and WX models together. So the fastener layout for the wrought concave WX is on the same sheet as the rest of the 1270 family, which is what you want when a floor has a mix of standard stops and the tamper resistant versions going in on the same day.
