Trimco TRI-1270CX.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What's the difference between the concave and convex Trimco 1270 wall bumpers, and which one do I need?
The 1270CX is the concave version, meaning the rubber face is dished. Pick concave when the thing hitting the wall is rounded, like a knob or the return on a lever, so the curve cups it and keeps it centered. Pick the convex bumper when the striking part is flat, such as the back edge of a lever or an escutcheon. The 1270 Series is offered both ways with the same cast body and the same steel washer molded into the rubber, so the only decision is the shape of the hardware doing the striking.
2) I keep losing wall stop bumpers to vandalism in my building. Will the Trimco 1270CX hold up?
That is what the steel washer is for. Trimco embeds a heavy steel washer into the rubber of the 1270 bumper specifically to stop tampering and unauthorized removal, so the rubber cannot simply be pulled off the fastener. For openings where that still is not enough, the series runs two harder options: the 1270CXPV prison version adds an anti-rotation pin so the unit cannot be spun off the wall, and the 1270CXSV school version is surface mounted. Same concave face on all three.
3) Will a Trimco 1270CX wall stop work with any lockset, or do I have to match it to the lever I have?
It is built to work with all styles of locksets and handles, so you are not matching it to a specific lock brand or trim. The one thing to get right is the face shape against what strikes it. The CX is concave for rounded knobs and lever returns; if the contact point on your trim is flat, take the convex version of the 1270 instead. Height on the wall is set by where the hardware actually lands, not by the stop.
4) Is the Trimco 1270CX suitable for a school or a detention facility?
Both, but specify the right suffix. The plain 1270CX is the standard cast concave bumper for offices, retail, hospitality, multifamily and government work. For schools, the 1270CXSV is the surface mounted version built for that abuse. For prisons and detention, the 1270CXPV adds an anti-rotation pin so the unit cannot be worked off the wall. Ordering the base 1270CX where a tamper resistant model was specified is the common mistake.
5) Is the Trimco 1270CX cast or wrought, and does that matter for a high traffic door?
Cast. The 1270CX is the cast-body concave bumper, and the 1270 Series is also built in a wrought version if you want the lighter pressed form. Cast is the heavier of the two for corridors, classroom wings and entries that get slammed all day. The rubber itself is an industrial bumper with a heavy steel washer cast into it, so a resident cannot pry or twist the rubber off the screw.
6) Do I need to order anchors separately for a Trimco 1270CX wall stop, or does it come with fasteners?
Fasteners are in the box. Each 1270 Series bumper ships with a combination fastener pack covering the range of wall conditions you run into, drywall, block, wood blocking, so you are not sourcing anchors per opening. On a punch list where some walls have blocking behind them and some do not, that is one less trip. Nothing else is required to mount it.
7) What ANSI/BHMA number does the Trimco 1270 wall bumper carry for my hardware schedule?
The 1270 wall bumper is listed under BHMA L02101/L0225. That is the line to put on the schedule or the submittal when a spec calls out a wall stop by BHMA type. It is a commercial-duty product, not a residential builder-grade stop.
8) Should I use a wall bumper or a floor stop on my openings?
A wall bumper like the Trimco 1270CX is the choice when the door swings into a wall within reach and there is solid backing to fasten into. It keeps the floor clear, which matters in corridors that get mopped or carted through, and there is nothing to trip on. Go to a floor stop instead when the door swings past the wall, into open space, or when the wall behind is glass or has no blocking. For a door that also needs to stay open, you want a stop with a hold-open feature rather than a plain bumper, since the 1270 only cushions the swing.
9) What finishes does the Trimco 1270CX concave wall bumper come in?
Seven, all standard architectural numbers: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. If you are matching a building already standardized on 626 satin chrome levers or 613 bronze, the stop drops straight into that scheme. Order the finish code, not the color name, since 613 and 613E are visibly different.
