2) What is the difference between the Trimco 1270CX and 1270CV wall bumpers?
Bumper profile. The CX is the concave rubber bumper and the CV is the convex one. Concave is the one to use when the lever or knob strikes the wall face on and you want the handle to seat into the cup of the bumper. Convex stands proud and takes the hit on a rounded crown. Both are offered in the 1270 Series with the same prison (PV) and school (SV) tamper resistant treatments, so pick the profile that matches how your lockset contacts the wall and then pick the security version.
3) Can I use a wall bumper like the Trimco 1270CXPV, or do I need a floor stop?
A wall bumper only works when the door swings to a wall within reach of the lever's arc and you have solid backing to anchor into. If the door opens into open space, or into a corridor where a projecting stop is a trip or ADA path problem, a floor stop or an overhead stop is the right part instead. In detention and secure openings specifically, the reason to go with the 1270CXPV over a floor mounted stop is that there's nothing at floor level to pry at and the anti-rotation pin keeps the wall unit from being spun off.
