1) What is the difference between the Trimco 1278CV concave wall bumper and the convex 1278CX?
Bumper face shape, and it decides what hits it. The 1278CV is the concave version: the rubber is dished, so it cups a round lever end or a knob and keeps it from sliding off the bumper. The convex 1278CX has a domed face and suits flat hardware, like a lever with a squared return or a paddle. Match the bumper face to whatever is actually striking the wall on your door. Both are cast wall bumpers in the same 1278 family.
2) Will a Trimco 1278CV wall bumper work with a lever handle, or is it only for knobs?
Levers and knobs both. The 1278 wall bumpers are metal-encased rubber stops built for use with all styles of locksets and handles, and the concave face on the CV in particular cradles a round lever end or a knob so it does not skate off the rubber. What decides fit is not the lockset type, it is the height and projection of the handle: mount the bumper so the center of the rubber lands where the handle actually strikes the wall.
3) What fasteners come with the Trimco 1278CV wall bumper, or do I need to buy anchors separately?
Fasteners are included. Trimco ships the 1278 wall bumpers with a combination fastener pack covering a variety of wall conditions, so drywall, block and stud all get an option in the box. You do not order anchors as a separate line. Pick the fastener from the pack that matches what is behind the finish surface at your mounting point; hitting a stud or solid backing is what keeps a bumper on the wall over the long run.
4) Can somebody pull the rubber off a Trimco 1278 wall bumper? We keep losing them in a school corridor.
There is a heavy steel washer cast into the rubber specifically to resist tampering and unauthorized removal, so the bumper is not the easy target it looks like. If the corridor is genuinely high-abuse, Trimco makes the problem go away further up the family: the 1270CVSV and 1270CXSV are surface mounted school models, and the 1270CVPV and 1270CXPV prison versions add an anti-rotation pin that stops the whole unit being twisted off the wall. For a detention or repeat-vandalism opening, order those rather than the standard cast bumper.
5) Is a wall bumper the right stop for my door, or do I need a floor stop or an overhead?
A wall bumper like the 1278CV is right when the door swings into open wall and the handle or the door face reaches that wall. It is the cheapest and least obtrusive answer, and it puts the impact on solid backing instead of on the hinges. It is the wrong call in three cases: the door swings past the wall or into open floor with nothing behind it, the wall behind is glass or a finish you cannot anchor into, or the door needs to be held at a set angle rather than just stopped. Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if you know the number on the levers or hinges already hanging in the building, order the bumper in the same number and it will read as a set. 626 satin chrome and 613 oil rubbed bronze are the two that cover most commercial and multifamily interiors.
