  • Trimco’s KE Series Edge & Finger Guards are manufactured in the USA by master craftsmen from stainless steel, bronze or brass. Flexibility in options on the Edge Guards includes beveled or non-beveled stile, single or double acting doors, mortising, 2 or 3 edge protection and custom cutouts. 1) What kind of door edge does the Trimco KE38-1 edge guard fit?
The KE38-1 is made for a radius (rounded) stile on a double acting door, and it is the mortised version, so the guard sets into a routed edge rather than sitting proud of it. If your stile is square instead of rounded, the KE38-1 is the wrong profile: use the KE37-1 for a mortised 90 degree non-beveled stile on a double acting door, or the KE37-2 for a stile beveled 1/8 inch.
2) What is the difference between an edge guard for a single acting door and one for a double acting door?
A double acting door swings both ways, so both faces of the stile take abuse and the guard wraps three sides: the edge plus both faces. Trimco's single acting versions (KE31-1, KE32-1, KE35-1, KE36-1) are 2-sided, protecting the edge and one face. The KE38-1 is a double acting door guard.
3) What finishes does the Trimco KE38-1 edge guard come in, and will it match my other door trim?
Four finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so matching push plates, kick plates, or pulls carrying the same number will key up. All four are offered in every length band.
4) Is the Trimco KE38-1 edge guard solid brass or plated steel?
Brass is the substrate on the KE38-1. The KE Series as a whole is made in the USA from stainless steel, bronze or brass, so the 630 satin stainless option is a different base metal rather than a coating over brass.
5) Is a Trimco KE38-1 edge guard acceptable on an ADA-compliant opening?
Yes, the KE38-1 is listed as ADA compliant. It is a commercial-duty part, used in hospitals, schools and nurseries, government and military facilities, hospitality, and manufacturing plants where double acting doors take cart and traffic abuse.
6) I need to protect kids' fingers at the hinge side, not the latch edge. Is an edge guard the right part?
No. The KE38-1 protects the leading edge and faces of the stile from impact damage. For pinch protection at the door and jamb gap, Trimco's KE39 finger guard is the part in the same series, made specifically to keep children's fingers out of that gap.
