Trimco’s KE Series Edge & Finger Guards are manufactured in the USA by master craftsmen from stainless steel, bronze or brass. Flexibility in options on the Edge Guards includes beveled or non-beveled stile, single or double acting doors, mortising, 2 or 3 edge protection and custom cutouts. 1) What door does the Trimco KE37-1 edge guard fit, single acting or double acting?
The KE37-1 is built for a double acting door with a non-beveled stile. It's a 90 degree, 3-sided guard, and it's mortised, so the stile has to be routed to receive it rather than surface applied. If your stile is beveled 1/8 inch, the KE37-2 is the 93 degree version of the same mortised 3-sided guard. For a single acting door with a non-beveled stile, the mortised 2-sided KE35-1 is the one to order.
2) My door stiles are beveled, can I still use the KE37-1?
No. The KE37-1 is cut at 90 degrees for a square, non-beveled stile. On a stile beveled 1/8 inch you want the KE37-2, which is the same mortised 3-sided double acting guard cut at 93 degrees to sit flat on the bevel. Forcing a 90 degree guard onto a beveled edge leaves a gap and the guard won't seat in the mortise correctly.
3) I have double acting doors with a radius stile, not a square edge. What do I order?
Not the KE37-1, which is cut square at 90 degrees. Trimco makes two guards for a radius stile on a double acting door: the KE34-1 surface version and the KE38-1 mortised version. Pick the KE38-1 if you want the same flush mortised installation the KE37-1 gives on square-edged doors.
4) Why is a 3-sided edge guard needed on a double acting door instead of a 2-sided one?
A double acting door swings both ways, so the leading edge takes impact from both faces and the full edge is exposed in use. The 3-sided guards in Trimco's KE line, including the KE37-1, wrap the door edge plus both faces. The 2-sided versions (KE31-1, KE32-1, KE35-1, KE36-1) are specified for single acting doors, where only one face is exposed at the strike edge.
5) What finishes does the Trimco KE37-1 edge guard come in?
Four: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. All four are available in each of the three length brackets. For matching a building already standardized on satin chrome-look hardware, 630 satin stainless is the usual pick; 606 satin brass matches US4-style brass trim.
6) Is the Trimco KE37-1 edge guard ADA compliant for a hospital or school door?

The surface applied equivalents in the KE line are the KE33-1 (90 degree, 3-sided, non-beveled, double acting) and KE33-2 (93 degree for a 1/8 inch bevel). If the doors are already hung and you don't want to rout them, the KE33 pair is the way to go.
8) Is there a Trimco option to keep kids' fingers out of the hinge gap instead of protecting the door edge?
That's a different part. Edge guards like the KE37-1 armor the door edge and faces against impact and wear. For pinch protection at the jamb, the KE39 Fingerguard is the KE Series item that covers the gap between the door and jamb, which is why the series is specified in nurseries and pre-schools.
