KE Series Edge Guards

Trimco’s KE Series Edge & Finger Guards are manufactured in the USA by master craftsmen from stainless steel, bronze or brass. Flexibility in options on the Edge Guards includes beveled or non-beveled stile, single or double acting doors, mortising, 2 or 3 edge protection and custom cutouts. Offered in standard 42″ lengths, they are also available in custom lengths. The Finger Guards protect children’s fingers from getting pinched between the door and jamb.

1) What is the difference between the Trimco KE33-1 and the KE31-1 edge guard?
Both are 90 degree guards for a non-beveled stile, but they cover different amounts of the edge. The KE33-1 is 3-sided and is made for a double acting door, where the door swings both ways and both faces of the stile take abuse. The KE31-1 is 2-sided and is for a single acting door. Pick by how the door swings first, then by stile bevel.
2) My door stiles are beveled 1/8 inch. Can I still use the KE33-1?
No. The KE33-1 is cut at 90 degrees for a square, non-beveled stile. For a double acting door with stiles beveled 1/8 inch, the KE33-2 is the 93 degree 3-sided version. Forcing a 90 degree guard onto a beveled stile leaves a gap along the edge.
3) What does specifying mortise or non-mortise mean when ordering a Trimco KE edge guard?
Non-mortise means the guard is applied over the existing door edge and stands slightly proud of it. Mortised means the door edge is routed so the guard sits flush. The KE33-1 is the non-mortised 90 degree 3-sided guard; the KE37-1 is the same guard mortised. If clearance between the door and jamb is already tight, or the door is fire labeled and you want the edge to remain flush, mortised is the one to specify, and the door has to be prepped for it.
4) What lengths of Trimco KE33-1 edge guard can I order for a tall door?
Three length bands are offered: up to 42 inches, 43 to 66 inches, and 67 to 96 inches. The 42 inch size is the standard stock length for protecting the cart-strike zone; the longer bands cover full-height edge protection on an 8 foot door. Custom lengths are available within those bands.
5) My double acting doors have a rounded edge, not a square one. Will the KE33-1 fit?
No. A radius stile needs the KE34-1, which is the 3-sided guard shaped for a radius edge on a double acting door, or the KE38-1 if you want it mortised. The KE33-1 is a square 90 degree profile and will not seat on a rounded edge.
6) What finishes does the Trimco KE33-1 edge guard come in?
Four: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. All four are offered in each of the three length bands, so you can match a run of tall doors and short doors in one finish. For matching existing hardware in a hotel or healthcare corridor, 630 is the usual commercial match and 613 the usual decorative one.
7) I need to stop kids pinching fingers at the hinge side. Is an edge guard the right part?
No, an edge guard like the KE33-1 protects the lock edge of the door from cart and traffic damage. For pinch protection at the jamb, Trimco's KE39 fingerguard in the same series is the part that covers the gap between door and jamb. Nurseries and pre-schools are a named application for the series.
8) What material is the Trimco KE33-1 edge guard made from?
Brass is the substrate on the KE33-1, with the KE Series produced in the USA in stainless steel, bronze or brass depending on the finish ordered.
