KE Series Edge Guards

Trimco’s KE Series Edge & Finger Guards are manufactured in the USA by master craftsmen from stainless steel, bronze or brass. Flexibility in options on the Edge Guards includes beveled or non-beveled stile, single or double acting doors, mortising, 2 or 3 edge protection and custom cutouts. Offered in standard 42″ lengths, they are also available in custom lengths. The Finger Guards protect children’s fingers from getting pinched between the door and jamb.

1) Will the Trimco KE33-2 edge guard fit a door with a beveled stile?
That's exactly what the KE33-2 is cut for. It is a 93 degree, 3-sided edge guard made for stiles beveled 1/8 inch. If your door edge is square (non-beveled), you want the 90 degree version instead, the KE33-1.
2) Is the KE33-2 for single acting or double acting doors?
Double acting. The KE33-2 wraps three sides of the door edge, which is what a door swinging both directions needs. For a single acting door with a 1/8 inch bevel, the 2-sided KE32-1 is the correct model.
3) What is the difference between mortise and non-mortise on a Trimco KE edge guard, and which should I order?
Non-mortise guards surface apply over the door edge, so the guard's thickness adds to the door edge and can tighten your hinge-side or strike clearance. Mortised guards are let into the edge so the face sits flush. Within the KE Series, the mortised 93 degree 3-sided double acting equivalent is the KE37-2. Order mortise when you are cutting a new door or want a flush edge, non-mortise when you are retrofitting an existing door in place.
4) My double acting door has a rounded (radius) edge, not a bevel. Can I use the KE33-2?
No. The KE33-2 is formed to a 93 degree beveled stile and will not seat on a radius edge. Use the KE34-1, which is the 3-sided radius stile guard for double acting doors, or the KE38-1 if you want it mortised.
5) What finishes does the Trimco KE33-2 edge guard come in?
Four: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. All four are offered in every length range, so you can match a full-height guard to shorter guards elsewhere in the building. 630 satin stainless is the usual pick alongside commercial push plates and kick plates; 613 suits hospitality openings with darker trim.
6) What material is the KE33-2 edge guard made from, and will it hold up to cart traffic?
Brass is the substrate on the KE33-2, and the KE Series is made in the USA from stainless steel, bronze or brass. It is a commercial-duty part, built for high abuse edges like hospital corridors, kitchens and manufacturing doors that get hit by carts and pallet jacks.
7) Can Trimco KE Series edge guards be made with cutouts for hinges and a lock?
Yes. KE Series edge guards are available with custom cutouts along with custom lengths, so the guard can be notched around hinges, a strike or an exit device mounting on the leaf rather than being cut in the field.
8) I need to keep kids' fingers out of the hinge gap on a preschool door. Is an edge guard the right part?
No, that is a different piece. An edge guard like the KE33-2 armors the door's leading edge against impact. For pinch protection at the door and jamb gap, the KE Series fingerguard is the KE39.
