1) What door does the Trimco KE37-2 edge guard actually fit?
The KE37-2 is built for a double acting door with a stile beveled 1/8 inch. It wraps three sides of the edge and is mortised into the door, so the face legs sit flush rather than proud. If your stile is square (non-beveled), the KE37-1 is the 90 degree mortised 3-sided version instead. On a single acting door you would not use either one, since single acting openings only need 2-sided protection.
2) Do I need a mortised edge guard or a surface applied one?
Mortised guards like the KE37-2 get routed into the door edge so the guard finishes flush with the door face, which matters on doors with close clearances or where a raised leg would foul the jamb or a gasket. Surface applied guards in the same family, the KE33-1 and KE33-2 for double acting doors, screw straight on with no routing, which is the practical choice on a retrofit where you cannot pull the door and mill it.
3) My door has a rounded edge instead of a beveled one. Can I still use a KE37-2?
No. The KE37-2 is cut for a stile beveled 1/8 inch. For a radius stile on a double acting door, use the KE38-1, which is the mortised radius version, or the KE34-1 if you want a surface applied 3-sided radius guard instead.
4) Which finishes does the KE37-2 edge guard come in, and will it match my existing lever trim?
Four finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 630 satin stainless steel. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if the levers and push plates on your other openings are specified 630, the 630 guard will read the same. All four length ranges are offered in each of the four finishes.
5) What is the difference between an edge guard and a finger guard in the Trimco KE Series?
They solve different problems. Edge guards such as the KE37-2 armor the door edge and stile against cart, gurney and traffic damage. The KE39 finger guard covers the hinge gap so a child's fingers cannot be pinched between the door and jamb, which is why it shows up on nursery and pre-school openings. If you are protecting kids rather than the door, the KE39 is the part.
6) Can I get a Trimco edge guard cut around an existing lock or exit device?
Yes. Trimco offers custom cutouts on the KE Series Edge Guards along with custom lengths, so a guard can be produced to clear a mortise lock face, a strike or a vertical rod device already in the door. Give the cutout locations off the door edge when you place the order.
