Trimco TRI-PBT8000-2-13 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Trimco PBT8000-2-13 push bar cover fit a Von Duprin 98/99 exit device?
No. The PBT8000-2-13 is cut for the Precision Hardware Apex 2000 device at 2 feet 6 inches. For a Von Duprin 98 or 99, order the PBT8000-1-18 for a 36 inch device or the PBT8000-1-24 for a 48 inch device. The push bar profiles differ between the two manufacturers, so the covers are not interchangeable.
2) Which Precision Apex 2000 device size does the PBT8000-2-13 cover match?
The 2 feet 6 inch Apex 2000 device. Trimco cuts the Apex covers to the device, not the door, so a 3 foot device takes the PBT8000-2-19 and a 4 foot device takes the PBT8000-2-23. Measure the existing push bar before ordering, since a cover sized to the wrong device will not snap on correctly.
3) Do I have to take the exit device off the door to install a push bar trim cover?
No. The PBT8000 covers snap onto exit devices already installed on the door, and no hardware is needed to mount them. That makes it a retrofit you can do on an occupied opening without pulling the device or re-prepping the door, which is why property managers use them across a building in a single pass.
4) Is the antimicrobial property a coating that wears off the push bar?
It is not a coating. The PBT8000 push bar trim cover is bactericidal through the material itself, so it does not wear off the way a sprayed or dipped surface film does on a high-traffic touch point.
5) Can I get a push bar cover for an Apex 2000 device that is not a standard 2'6", 3' or 4' length?
Yes, Trimco offers custom lengths in the PBT8000 series. The catalogued Apex 2000 sizes are 2 feet 6 inches, 3 feet and 4 feet; anything outside those is handled as a custom cut.
6) Does adding a push bar cover to an exit device affect ADA compliance on an egress door?
The PBT8000-2-13 is listed as ADA compliant. It snaps over the existing push bar with no hardware and does not change how the device is operated, so the touch-and-release action of the Apex 2000 is unaffected.
7) What finish does the Trimco PBT8000-2-13 come in?
710CU Steralloy, a silver-colored copper alloy finish. It reads close to a satin stainless or aluminum push bar, so it generally blends with existing Apex 2000 hardware on adjacent openings rather than standing out as a replacement part.
8) Where are Trimco PBT8000 antimicrobial push bar covers typically specified?
Commercial-duty applications: commercial and industrial buildings, hospitality, multifamily and mixed-use, public buildings and facilities, and retail or strip malls. The PBT8000 is a commercial product, aimed at high-touch egress doors where a facility wants a bactericidal surface on the push bar without replacing the exit device.
