Trimco TRI-PBT8000-2-19 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Trimco PBT8000-2-19 push bar cover fit a Von Duprin 98/99 exit device?
No. The -2- prefix in PBT8000-2-19 designates the Precision Hardware Apex 2000 device, and this one is cut for the 3 foot Apex 2000. For a Von Duprin 98/99 you need the -1- covers instead: PBT8000-1-18 for a 36 inch device or PBT8000-1-24 for a 48 inch device. The Apex and Von Duprin push bars are different profiles, so the snap-on cover is not interchangeable between them.
2) Which Precision Apex 2000 door width does the PBT8000-2-19 cover match?
It matches the 3 foot Apex 2000 device. Trimco cuts the Apex covers in three sizes: PBT8000-2-13 for the 2 foot 6 inch device, PBT8000-2-19 for the 3 foot, and PBT8000-2-23 for the 4 foot. Size the cover to the exit device already on the door, not to the door leaf, and custom lengths can be had if your device does not match a standard length.
3) Do I have to take the exit device off the door to install a Trimco push bar cover?
No. The PBT8000 covers snap onto exit devices that are already installed, with no hardware needed and no drilling. That is the point of the series, it is a retrofit part meant to go on in a few minutes per opening without pulling the device or taking the door out of service.
4) Is this an antimicrobial coating that wears off the push bar over time?
It is not a coating. The PBT8000 is a solid bactericidal cover that snaps over the existing push bar, so there is no sprayed or plated surface layer to abrade away under traffic. The antimicrobial property is in the material itself.
5) Will adding a push bar cover to my exit devices affect ADA compliance on the opening?
Trimco lists the PBT8000 cover as ADA compliant. It snaps over the existing push bar without adding hardware or changing how the device is operated, so the touchpad still releases the same way for a user pushing through.
6) I manage a building with a mix of Von Duprin and Precision exit devices. Can I standardize on one push bar cover?
Not on one part number. You would order by device brand and length: the -1- series for the Von Duprin 98/99 openings (36 inch and 48 inch) and the -2- series for the Precision Apex 2000 openings (2 foot 6 inch, 3 foot, 4 foot). All of them are the same 710CU Steralloy finish, so the doors will still match visually across the building even though the part numbers differ.
7) Is the PBT8000 push bar cover meant for commercial buildings or will it work in a house?
It is a commercial part. Trimco classifies the PBT8000 as commercial door hardware, and it only fits Precision Apex 2000 and Von Duprin 98/99 exit devices, which are commercial panic hardware. Typical uses are offices and industrial buildings, hotels, multifamily and mixed use, public facilities, and retail and strip malls, anywhere with high touch egress doors.
