Trine EN-CA-24DC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Trine EN-CA coil assembly fit my existing EN Series electric strike?
Any EN-CA coil assembly works with any EN Series strike. That is the point of the part: it is a field replacement solenoid for Trine EN Series electric strikes, so an EN400 or any other EN Series body takes the same coil. Pick the coil by the voltage you are feeding it, not by the strike model.
2) Which Trine EN-CA coil do I order, and how do I tell them apart once they are out of the box?
There are four, and the wire leads identify them. EN-CA-12DC has orange and white leads. EN-CA-24DC has black and white. EN-CA-12AC has blue, orange and white. EN-CA-24AC has blue, black and white. If you are pulling an unknown coil out of an existing strike, the lead colors tell you what voltage it was.
3) Does a Trine EN Series strike with the EN-CA solenoid unlock or lock when the power drops?
It locks. The EN Series function is electrically unlocked, fail secure: the strike holds the latch secure with no power and releases only when energized. On an egress door that means free mechanical exit through the lever or panic device is what gets people out, not the strike. If your opening needs the strike to release on a power failure, this is the wrong function and you want a fail safe device.
4) My electric strike stopped releasing. Do I replace the whole strike or just the solenoid?
On a Trine EN Series strike, the coil is a serviceable replacement part. If the strike body and its frame cutout are sound and the unit no longer pulls when energized, the EN-CA coil assembly swaps in without touching the frame prep or the wiring run. Replacing the whole strike means re-doing the cutout and the wiring; replacing the coil does not.
5) Is the Trine EN-CA solenoid a fire rated part, and can I use it on an exterior door?
No on both counts. The EN-CA coil assembly carries no fire rating and is not outdoor rated. It is a commercial interior part. For a rated opening or a weather-exposed frame, specify hardware that is rated for it.
6) Can I stock one Trine coil for a building full of EN Series strikes on different voltages?
You can standardize the strike bodies and carry coils by voltage. Because any EN-CA coil fits any EN Series strike, one strike body serves 12 or 24 volt, AC or DC openings depending on which coil is in it. For a property manager or MRO stockroom, that means a shelf of four coil part numbers covers every EN Series opening in the portfolio rather than four different strikes.
7) Will a Trine EN-CA coil fit an Adams Rite electric strike?
No. The EN-CA coil assembly is built for Trine EN Series strikes only. If you are working on an Adams Rite opening, the Adams Rite 7400A Series Ultraline electric strike body kit is the Adams Rite part, and it has field selectable fail safe or fail secure operation rather than a coil swap for voltage. Coils and strike bodies do not cross brands.
