1) Can the Trine EN400CMRP electric strike be used on an exterior gate?
That is exactly what the EN400CMRP kit is built for. It is UL 1034 Listed indoor/outdoor burglary resistant and ships with a weldable steel gatebox, so the strike can be mounted into a gate post or frame where there is no conventional door jamb. The kit also includes the RP latch for rim panic exit devices, so the same kit covers a gate with a panic device on it.
2) Is the EN400CMRP fire rated when used with a rim panic device?
Only with the CM latch. The EN400CMRP carries UL 10C Class A 3-hour fire rating on a single swing door when the CM latch (cylindrical and mortise lock) is installed. With the RP latch fitted for a rim panic exit device, it is not 10C rated. If the opening is a fire rated door with a rim panic, you need a different strike, such as the Hager 2945 fire rated rim exit strike.
3) What lock types does the Trine EN400CMRP work with?
Both families. The CM latch handles cylindrical and mortise locksets, the same as the standard 400, and the included RP latch converts it for rim panic exit devices, the same as the 400RP. One kit, both applications, which is why it gets specified when a building mixes lock types across exterior openings.
4) Does the EN400CMRP fit a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike prep?
The faceplate is 4-7/8 inches by 1-1/4 inches, which is the standard ANSI frame cutout size, so it drops into an existing 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 prep. For a new gate install, the included gatebox gets welded in and the strike mounts to it.
5) Can I set the Trine EN400 strike to fail safe instead of fail secure?
Yes on DC units, fail secure and fail safe are field reversible, so you do not order a separate part number for the mode. Handing is field reversible too, left or right, which matters when one strike has to cover several openings in a building.
6) What other outdoor rated gate strike can be used instead of the Trine EN400CMRP?
The Camden CX-ED1959 series is an outdoor rated electric gate strike, so it covers the same exterior gate application as the outdoor rated Trine EN400CMRP. The difference that matters on a fire rated opening: the Camden CX-ED1959 is not fire rated, while the EN400CMRP carries a fire rating. For an exterior gate with no fire requirement either will serve; for a rated door assembly, stay with the Trine.
7) Is there a fire rated rim exit device strike equivalent to the Trine EN400CMRP for an interior door?
The Hager 2945 is a fire rated rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure operation and a latchbolt monitor, which makes it a direct functional peer for the rim panic side of the Trine EN400CMRP.
