1) Will the Trine 4800F electric strike work with my rim panic exit device?
The 4800F is built specifically for surface mounted rim exit devices with a 3/4 inch or greater latch throw. The cavity is completely open, so it takes a full 3/4 inch depth, and with the two 1/16 inch spacer plates that ship with it you can accommodate up to a 1 inch throw. If your device has a Pullman latch shorter than 3/4 inch, this is the wrong strike.
2) Is the Trine 4800F fire rated, and does that hold if I wire it fail safe?
Fire rated as standard, Class A 3 hour on a single door and frame, tested to UL10C, UBC 7-2 and CAN4 S104 (NFPA 252). The catch: the fire listing is void in fail safe mode. That is true of every electric strike, not just this one. If the opening is a fire door, wire it fail secure. The 4800F is supplied fail secure and the action is field selectable.
3) What voltage do I need to run the Trine 4800F strike?
Anything from 11 to 28 volts, AC or DC, with no jumpers to cut or set. The built-in electronics take the input as it comes and include surge and kickback protection. At 12VDC it pulls 0.566 amps and holds at 0.217; at 24VDC it is 0.253 pull and 0.099 hold. 12, 16 and 24 VAC are all fine too. Continuous or intermittent duty, and it runs silent, so no buzz on an office or hospitality door.
4) The opening is a pair of doors with surface vertical rod devices. Can I use the 4800F?
No. The 4800F is specified for single door frames with surface mounted rim exit devices. For surface vertical rods, the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is a complete Grade 1 electric strike pac built for that application. For a double door, the Rockwood ESK-DBL is a Grade 1 fire rated double door electric strike with a 3/4 keeper, which matches the 3/4 inch throw the 4800F works with.
5) The door has a cylindrical lockset, not a panic bar. What electric strike should I use instead of the 4800F?
The 4800F is built for surface mounted rim exit devices with a 3/4 inch or greater throw, so a cylindrical lockset needs a different body. The Von Duprin 4211 is a Grade 1 heavy duty fire rated electric strike for cylindrical locks with 12/24 VDC field-selectable voltage. The Adams Rite 7240 is a fire-rated strike for cylindrical locksets with 5/8 inch latchbolt projection. The Hager 2930 is a fire rated Grade 1 strike that covers both cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24 VDC dual voltage.
6) I have a mortise lock opening on a fire door. Is the 4800F the right strike?
No. The 4800F is made for exit devices. For a mortise lock on a fire rated opening, the Von Duprin 6210 is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise lock strike, 24 VDC fail-secure, UL 10C fire rated. The Securitron MUNL Mortise UnLatch is a Grade 1 fire rated mortise strike. The Von Duprin 6400 is a Grade 1 modular strike for mortise or cylindrical locks, fail-secure, with a 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure mode, which is the same 3 hour UL10C basis the 4800F carries.
7) Is the SDC 30-4 the same thing as the Trine 4800F?
They serve the same opening but they are different parts. The SDC 30-4 Series is a 3/4 inch Pullman latchbolt rim mount electric strike in stainless steel construction, which matches the 4800F's rim application and 3/4 inch throw. The difference that decides it is the rating: the 4800F is fire rated, tested to UL10C for a 3 hour Class A single door and frame configuration, and that rating is void in fail safe mode. If the opening is rated, confirm the rating before treating the two as interchangeable.
8) I need an electric strike on an exterior gate. Does the 4800F work outdoors?
The 4800F is not outdoor rated. For a gate, the Camden CX-ED1959 Series is an outdoor rated electric gate strike. It is not fire rated, which is not usually a factor on a gate but is worth confirming against the spec.
9) My power supply is 16 VAC. Which strikes accept that without a separate transformer?
The 4800F has built-in electronics that automatically accept 11 through 28 volts AC and DC, including 16 VAC, with surge and kickback protection, so the same unit covers 12/24 VAC/DC inputs. 11) Do I need to order the LB latchbolt monitoring option on the Trine 4800F?
