1) Will the Trine EN800 electric strike work with a rim panic exit device?
That's what the EN800 is built around. It takes the Pullman latch of most rim panic exit devices, with a 9 inch faceplate that covers the strike area on the jamb. It goes into wood or metal jambs for new work or as a replacement. If your opening uses a cylindrical or mortise lock instead of a rim device, this is the wrong strike for it.
2) Can an electric strike be used outdoors on a gate?
The Trine EN800 is one of the few that can. It carries a UL 1034 Indoor/Outdoor Burglary Resistant listing, which is what makes it usable on exterior gates rather than just interior openings. 3) Can the Trine EN800 be switched between fail safe and fail secure after it is installed?
On DC units, yes. Fail safe and fail secure are field reversible on the 12VDC and 24VDC EN800, so if the AHJ or the egress plan changes after install you re-set the strike instead of replacing it. The AC units are ordered as one or the other. It's still specified as Fail-Safe or Fail-Secure on the order.
4) What voltage should I order for a Trine EN800, and will it buzz?
Four choices: 12VAC, 24VAC, 12VDC and 24VDC. The AC units buzz and are rated intermittent duty only, which suits a doorbell style release button. The DC units run silent and are rated intermittent or continuous duty, so those are what you want on an access control head end where the strike may be held released. Current draw is 0.700A at 12VAC, 0.370A at 24VAC, 0.280A at 12VDC and 0.150A at 24VDC, so size the power supply off the one you pick.
5) Can I replace an existing rim exit strike with the Trine EN800 without recutting the jamb?
Plan on checking the prep. The EN800 uses a 9 inch faceplate and a 3/4 inch thick faceplate body, which is a deeper and longer cutout than a short ANSI style prep. Trine publishes an EN800 frame prep and a dimension drawing, and those are what to lay against the existing cutout before you commit. If the existing prep is a 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 ANSI pocket, that is a different strike family entirely and the EN800 will not drop into it.
6) What is a fire rated alternative to the Trine EN800 for a rim exit device on a labeled opening?
The EN800 is not fire rated, so on a labeled opening with a rim exit device the Hager 2945 is the direct swap: it is a fire rated rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure operation and a latchbolt monitor. The EN800 also offers fail-safe and fail-secure, so the electrical intent of the design carries over.
7) Does the Trine EN800 work with a mortise lock, or do I need a different strike?
The EN800 is built to work with most rim panic exit devices.
