Trine 234-26D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Trine 234 faceplate, and do I get a working electric strike if I only order it?
The 234 is the faceplate only, part of Trine's modular 3000 Series. It measures 2-3/4 x 1-1/8 inches and covers the mortise cut in the frame, but it has no solenoid or keeper in it. To end up with a functioning electric strike you order the 234 plus one 3000 Series mechanism: a 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS. Any of the nine 3000 Series faceplates mates with any of those four mechanisms, so the faceplate decides the frame prep and the mechanism decides voltage and function.
2) Will a 2-3/4 by 1-1/8 electric strike faceplate drop into my existing ANSI strike prep?
That is exactly what the 234 is cut for. It follows the ANSI 2-3/4 inch standard faceplate footprint, which is the prep already in most hollow metal commercial frames, so a frame previously carrying an ANSI strike takes it with far less cutting. Trine puts that at about 80 percent less frame cutting than a full electric strike install. If your frame is prepped for a taller 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike, this is the wrong faceplate in the family.
3) Will the Trine 234 work with my lockset, and how much latch throw can it take?
Cylindrical locksets only. The 234 keeper is sized for a latch with up to 5/8 inch throw, measured against a 1/8 inch door-to-frame gap. A standard cylindrical knob or lever lock lands inside that. Do not put it behind a mortise lock or an exit device latch, and if your gap is wider than 1/8 inch you lose usable engagement.
4) Can I use this electric strike faceplate on a wood or aluminum frame?
No. The 234 faceplate is specified for metal frames, new construction or replacement. Hollow metal is the intended opening. Wood and aluminum frames need a strike built for that frame material, so this one should not be substituted in.
5) Is the Trine 234 faceplate handed, or does one part cover left and right hand doors?
No handing to specify. The 234 is a centered configuration faceplate, so the same part serves either hand and you do not need to order left or right. Handing on a 3000 Series opening is settled by the mechanism and the lockset, not by this plate.
6) Is the Trine 234 faceplate Grade 1, and is it made in the USA for a Buy American job?
Grade 1 faceplate, and Trine states it meets the Buy American Act as made in the USA. That covers the two boxes a government, school, or healthcare spec usually checks on a strike faceplate. It is rated standard duty for commercial installation.
7) If I stock the Trine 234 faceplate, can I change the voltage or fail-safe function later without recutting the frame?
Yes, and that is the point of the modular 3000 Series. The frame prep belongs to the faceplate; the 234 stays in the frame while you swap between the 3012, 3024, 30LC and 30RS mechanisms behind it. For a property manager or MRO shop that means one frame cut and one faceplate SKU on the shelf, with the electrical behavior decided at the mechanism.
8) What finishes does the Trine 234 come in for matching the rest of my openings?
Two: satin chrome (626) and dark bronze powder coat. 626 is the usual match for aluminum and brushed chrome hardware across a building; dark bronze suits bronze or black anodized entrances. Since the 3000 Series is modular, you can standardize one finish across every opening and still vary the mechanism behind it door by door.
