Trine 258-26D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Trine 258 faceplate come with the electric strike mechanism, or do I have to order that separately?
The 258 is a faceplate only. It's part of Trine's 3000 Series modular system, so you pair it with a 3000 Series mechanism, and you order that separately. Any of the 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS mechanisms will mate with it, and any of the nine 3000 Series faceplates fits any of those mechanisms. Buy both lines on the order or you'll have half a strike.
2) Will the Trine 258 work with an Adams Rite deadlatch in an aluminum storefront door?
That's exactly what it's built for. The 258 faceplate is intended for new or replacement work in aluminum frames and is used with Adams Rite 4510, 4710 and 4750 deadlatches. Lock type compatibility is deadlatch, so it is not the plate for a mortise lock or a cylindrical lockset.
3) Can I use the Trine 258 to replace an Adams Rite 4502 strike plate?
Yes, the 258 replaces a 4502 strike plate with slight modification to the frame. Compared with a typical 4-7/8 inch electric strike retrofit it takes about 80 percent less frame cutting, which is the reason most storefront guys pick it over a full-length strike on an existing opening.
4) What finishes is the Trine 258 faceplate available in?
Two: 626 Satin Chrome and DKBZ Dark Bronze Powder Coated. Satin chrome is the usual match for clear or mill-finish aluminum storefront, dark bronze for bronze anodized frames. Trine also lists a dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent (US10BE / 613e) among the series finishes.
5) Is the Trine 258 the right faceplate size for my opening, or do I need a different one from the 3000 series?
The 258 plate measures 2-5/8 by 1-11/16 inches, and the face plate spec is also given as 2-3/4 by 1-1/8 inches. Compare that against the existing plate or cut in your jamb before ordering. If it doesn't match, there are nine faceplates in the 3000 Series and all of them run on the same 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS mechanism, so switching plates does not mean switching mechanisms.
6) Is the Trine 258 faceplate Grade 1, and does it qualify for a Buy American job?
It's a Grade 1 faceplate and it's made in the USA, meeting the Buy American Act. That combination matters on government, school and healthcare specs where domestic sourcing is a condition of the order.
7) If I standardize on the Trine 3000 series across a building, can I stock one mechanism for different door types?
Yes, and that's the point of the modular setup. One 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS mechanism works with any of the nine 3000 Series faceplates, so a property manager or maintenance shop can keep mechanisms on the shelf and pull the faceplate that matches each frame, the 258 being the 2-5/8 by 1-11/16 inch plate for Adams Rite 4510, 4710 and 4750 deadlatch openings.
8) Is the Trine 258 suitable for a high-traffic entrance, or is it a lighter-duty part?
It's rated standard duty and intended for commercial installation, so it suits typical storefront and office entry traffic on an aluminum frame. For a very high-abuse opening, look at a heavy-duty strike line rather than pushing a standard-duty plate.
