Trine 458-ALUM-LH – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Trine 458 faceplate fill the frame cutout left by an Adams Rite strike?
That is what the 458 is built for. It retrofits the long Adams Rite strike and fills the frame preparation of Adams Rite MS locks without relocating tabs for 6-7/8 inch electric strikes. It replaces an Adams Rite 4730/4501 strike plate with slight frame modification, and Trine rates the job at about 80 percent less frame cutting than starting fresh.
2) Does the Trine 458 electric strike faceplate come with the strike mechanism, or do I order that separately?
The 458 is the faceplate only. It is part of Trine's modular 3000 Series, so you pair it with a mechanism: the 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS. Any of the nine 3000 Series faceplates works with any of those four mechanisms, so order the faceplate that matches your frame prep and the mechanism that matches your voltage and function.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Trine 458 faceplate?
Yes, handing has to be called out. The 458 is ordered left hand or right hand, and the wrong hand will not work on the opening. It also comes in two finishes, aluminum powder coat and dark bronze powder coat, and both finishes are offered in either hand.
4) What are the cutout dimensions for the Trine 458 strike faceplate?
The 458 faceplate measures 4-5/8 by 1-9/16 inches, with a 1 inch mortise backset. The cavity behind it is 1/2 inch deep, 5/8 inch wide and 1-1/8 inch high. Those are the numbers to check against your aluminum frame prep before cutting anything.
5) Is the Trine 458 faceplate right for an aluminum storefront door with a deadlatch?
That is exactly the application. The 458 is made for new or replacement installs in aluminum frames, and its lock type compatibility is a deadlatch. It is a commercial, standard duty faceplate, centered configuration.
6) Can I use the Trine 458 on a federally funded project with domestic sourcing requirements?
The 458 faceplate meets the Buy American Act and is made in the USA, which is what most federal and state procurement specs are looking for on door hardware line items.
7) Is the Trine 458 a Grade 1 faceplate?
Yes, the 458 is a Grade 1 faceplate. Note that the grade statement covers the faceplate itself; the mechanism you pair it with, 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS, is a separate part.
8) I manage several storefront entries with different frame preps. Do I need a different Trine strike for each one?
Not a different strike, just a different faceplate. The 3000 Series is modular: stock one mechanism type across the building and swap the faceplate to suit each frame. The 458 at 4-5/8 by 1-9/16 inches is the one that drops into Adams Rite MS lock prep, and there are nine faceplates in the series covering other preps, all working with the same 3012, 3024, 30LC and 30RS mechanisms.
