1) Does the Trine 478X-375 faceplate include the electric strike mechanism, or do I have to order that separately?
The 478X-375 is the faceplate only. Trine's 3000 Series is modular, so you pair this plate with one of the 3000 Series mechanisms: 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS. Order the mechanism separately and specify which one you want, then match the finish.
2) Will this Trine faceplate work on a Timely snap-on frame without adding a black ramp extension?
That is exactly what the 3/8 inch extended ramp is for. The 478X-375 ramp extends .375 inch to cover the additional snap-on frame face used on Timely and Redi frames, so you do not need a separate black ramp extension and you avoid the traditional 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike cut. It also gives a finished appearance on wood frames with trim.
3) What kind of lock does this 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 electric strike faceplate work with?
Cylindrical locksets and deadlatches, with a latch throw up to 5/8 inch based on a 1/8 inch door gap. It is not for mortise locks with a deadbolt or for exit device latches. If your opening has a lever lock or a deadlatch on an aluminum or hollow metal frame, this is the right plate profile.
4) What frame prep does the Trine 478X-375 need?
It works to ANSI A115.1 with a slight frame modification, and Trine states roughly 60 percent less frame cutting than a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike prep. The cavity behind the plate is 1/2 inch deep, 5/8 inch wide and 1-1/8 inch high, with a 1 inch mortise backset. Use those numbers to confirm your frame has room before you cut.
5) I have a 3000 Series strike already installed but the wrong faceplate. Can I just swap the plate?
Yes, that is the point of the modular 3000 Series. Any of the nine 3000 Series faceplates fits any 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS mechanism, so you can change the plate to the 478X-375 without replacing the electrified body. Trine lists it for new construction as well as replacement work.
6) Can I adjust the strike alignment if the door is binding after install?
Yes. The 478X-375 plate allows 1/8 inch of horizontal adjustment, which is there to keep the latch from being pre-loaded against the keeper when the door closes. That is usually enough to take up a slightly out of plumb frame or a door that sits tight in the rabbet.
7) Is this Trine strike faceplate acceptable for a government job with Buy American requirements?
Trine states the 478X-375 meets the Buy American Act and is made in the USA. That covers the domestic-origin question on federally funded work; your specifier still decides whether a standard duty strike plate suits the opening.
