Trine 234FX-375-32D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Trine 234FX-375 and does it include the electric strike mechanism?
The 234FX-375 is a faceplate only, part of Trine's 3000 Series modular electric strike system. You pair it with a 3000 Series mechanism, so you need to order one of those separately: the 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS. The plate measures 2-3/4 by 1-1/8 inches with a ramp extended 3/8 inch.
2) Why does this Trine faceplate have a 3/8 inch extended lip?
The extended ramp is there for Timely and RediFrame openings, where the frame face sits proud of a standard hollow metal jamb. Extending the ramp 3/8 inch picks up that extra frame face so the latch rides in cleanly. On a standard hollow metal frame you would use a non-extended 3000 Series plate instead.
3) Will the Trine 234FX-375 work with a cylindrical lockset or a deadlatch?
Yes on both. The 234FX-375 is cut for cylindrical locksets and deadlatches with up to a 5/8 inch throw, based on a 1/8 inch door gap. It is not for mortise locks with a deadbolt or for exit device rim latches.
4) What frame prep and cavity dimensions does the Trine 3000 Series 234FX-375 faceplate need?
It uses the standard ANSI 2-3/4 inch prep: mortise backset 1 inch, cavity depth 1/2 inch, cavity width 5/8 inch, cavity height 1-1/8 inch. Because it is the smallest faceplate in the 3000 Series for a Timely frame, Trine states it cuts frame work by about 80 percent compared to a full ANSI cutout.
5) Can I swap a different 3000 Series faceplate onto the same Trine strike mechanism later?
Yes. The 3000 Series is modular: any of the nine faceplates in the series mounts to any 3012, 3024, 30LC or 30RS mechanism. If a frame turns out to need a different plate on site, you change the plate and keep the mechanism.
6) Is the Trine 234FX-375 faceplate suitable for a government or federally funded job?
It is made in the USA and meets the Buy American Act per Trine. It is also a Grade 1 faceplate rated for commercial, standard duty use.
7) Is the Trine 234FX-375 only for new frames, or can it go into an existing opening?
Both. Trine lists it for new or replacement installations. On a replacement, confirm the existing cutout matches the ANSI 2-3/4 inch prep with a 1 inch mortise backset, and that the latch in the door is a cylindrical latch or deadlatch throwing no more than 5/8 inch.
8) What finishes does the Trine 234FX-375 faceplate come in?
Two: 630 satin stainless steel and 605 bright brass. Satin stainless is the usual match for commercial lever hardware and hollow metal openings; bright brass suits older brass trim packages.
9) Is the strike opening on this Trine plate centered or offset?
Centered. The 234FX-375 has a centered cutout in the 2-3/4 by 1-1/8 inch plate, which is what you want when the jamb prep is symmetrical about the latch centerline rather than shifted toward the stop.
