1) Do I need the Trine LC200 line conditioner if I'm running my electric strike on AC power?
No. The LC200 is a DC-only module. On AC power you wire low voltage power direct to the strike mechanism and the conditioner stays out of the circuit. It only earns its place on 12 or 24 volt DC installs, where it regulates the input, conditions the output through the pull-in period, then drops the holding voltage for continuous duty.
2) How far from the electric strike can the LC200 line conditioner be mounted?
Within 15 feet of the mechanism on DC. That is a wiring-run limit, not a suggestion, so plan the module location before you pull cable. Installers usually put it in the frame, above the door in an accessible box, or at the nearest junction rather than back at the power supply.
3) Does the Trine LC200 replace the older LC100 line conditioner?
Yes. The LC200 is the 2024 update to the LC100 and supersedes it. The housing changed too, the LC200 is a rectangular unit rather than the older shape.
4) Do I order the 12V or the 24V version of the Trine LC200?
The LC200 is ordered by voltage, 12V or 24V, and you match it to the DC supply feeding the strike. Pick it off the power supply output you already have on the door, not off the strike alone. The module handles 12 and 24 DC across the line, but the two versions are separate orderable items.
5) Is the Adams Rite 7400A a substitute for the Trine LC200 line conditioner?
No. They are different parts of an electric strike installation. The Trine LC200 is an external line conditioner that regulates 12 and 24 volt DC input, conditions the output for the pull-in activation period, then reduces holding voltage for continuous operation and reduced heat, and it provides current and voltage surge and kickback protection. The Adams Rite 7400A Ultraline is an electric strike body kit with field selectable fail safe/fail secure operation, meaning it is the strike mechanism that goes into the frame. A locksmith replacing a conditioner module orders the LC200; a locksmith replacing the strike itself orders the strike body kit. One does not do the work of the other.
6) What does a line conditioner actually do for an electric strike, and is it worth adding?
Three jobs on a DC strike. It regulates the incoming voltage so the solenoid sees a clean level. It conditions output for the pull-in period so the strike gets the punch it needs to release, then cuts back the holding voltage for continuous operation, which runs the coil cooler. And it absorbs current and voltage surges plus the inductive kickback the solenoid throws back down the line when it drops out, which is what protects your access control board and relays.
7) Can the LC200 line conditioner be mounted outdoors or in an exposed exterior frame?
No. The LC200 is not outdoor rated, so it belongs on the secure side, inside the frame cavity or an interior enclosure. On a perimeter opening, run the module inboard and keep it out of weather and washdown.
8) Is there an electric strike that handles fail safe/fail secure selection without a separate module?
If you are trying to cut down on add-on modules at the door, the Adams Rite 7400A Series Ultraline electric strike body kit is field selectable between fail safe and fail secure operation, so the mode is set at the strike rather than specified elsewhere. It is not fire rated. The LC200 is a different animal, it conditions DC power for a Trine strike and does not set failure mode.
9) Is the Trine LC200 fire rated for use on a labeled door opening?
The LC200 carries no fire rating. It is an electrical module, not part of the door assembly, but if you are building a labeled opening the fire rating has to come from the strike and frame hardware you specify, not from the conditioner.
10) For a commercial opening that is not fire rated, does the strike choice change which power accessory is used?
The Trine LC200 is a commercial DC power accessory sold in 12V and 24V, and it is not fire rated. The Adams Rite 7400A Ultraline electric strike body kit is likewise not fire rated. The LC200 conditions DC input voltage and protects against surge and kickback for the mechanism it feeds, and on DC it needs to be mounted within 15 feet of that mechanism. That mounting distance, not the model of strike in the frame, is the constraint an installer plans around.
11) Is the LC200 line conditioner suitable for a residential door or is it commercial only?
Commercial. The LC200 is specified for commercial access control work, where a strike cycles hard all day and the panel electronics are worth protecting from solenoid kickback. Nothing stops it working on a light-duty opening, but it is built and catalogued for the commercial side.
