Ideal Industries 35-096 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What conduit sizes does the IDEAL 35-096 Twist-a-Nut deburring head work on?
The 35-096 deburring head handles 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch thin wall conduit, and it cleans up both the inside and outside edges of the cut in one pass. For anything larger than 1 inch EMT you need a different reamer.
2) Is the IDEAL 35-096 a complete screwdriver or just the head?
Head only. The 35-096 is the deburring head by itself, so you need something to drive it: it mounts on the IDEAL 7-in-1 Twist-a-Nut screwdriver shaft (#35-908), or you can chuck it in a drill or cordless screwdriver at a low speed setting.
3) Can I use this deburring head in a cordless drill, or does it have to be hand driven?
It's rated for powered use as long as you keep the speed down. Run it at a low speed setting in a drill or cordless screwdriver, or turn it by hand on the 35-908 Twist-a-Nut shaft. High speed on thin wall EMT will chew the edge rather than ream it.
4) Does the 35-096 head also drive EMT set screws, or do I still need a separate screwdriver?
It drives set screws too. The hooded tip tightens EMT fitting set screws without slipping off, so for 1/2 to 1 inch runs you can ream the cut and snug the connector and coupling screws with the same head.
5) Slotted tip or square tip on the Twist-a-Nut deburring head: which should I order?
The 35-096 is the slotted tip version. IDEAL's square tip version of the same head seats on fitting set screws faster than the slotted one, so if most of your day is driving set screws, go square tip. If you want the slotted tip for general slotted screws on top of the deburring work, 35-096 is the one.
6) Why bother deburring EMT after cutting it?
A sawed or cut EMT end leaves a sharp internal burr that strips insulation as conductors are pulled. The 35-096 head takes off both the inside and outside burr on 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch thin wall, which is the condition inspectors look for on a pull.
