WAC Lighting BL-1630-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Stretch BL-1630 swing arm wall light be mounted sideways or pointing down, or does it only go up?
Mounting orientation is open on the Stretch reading light. It is approved for wall mounting in any orientation, and the mounting data lists both up and down positions, so you can run it above a headboard aimed down, beside a mirror, or inverted without voiding the install. The flexible rubber tube then handles final aiming at the task.
2) Will the Stretch BL-1630 wall light land on an existing 4 inch junction box?
Yes. A conversion plate for a 4 inch junction box ships with the light, so it mounts to standard existing box prep. The steel canopy measures 5 inches on the backplate, which covers the box and the plate.
3) Is this bedside reading light hardwired or can I plug it in?
Both are supported. The BL-1630 is catalogued as hardwired, with the driver concealed inside the canopy, but an 8 foot cord is included so it can be run as a portable plug-in unit instead. That matters for hotel and multi-family retrofits where you want the same fixture over a headboard with or without new rough-in.
4) Does the Stretch LED swing arm light need an external dimmer or wall control?
No separate dimmer is required. Dimming is integral: a fingertip touch pad on the die-cast aluminum head takes the output from 100 percent down to 10 percent. Nothing is wired back to a wall control, which is why it works as a plug-in unit too.
5) Can I use this WAC reading light in a hotel bathroom or a covered patio?
It is rated for damp locations and carries an IP44 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so a bathroom beside a mirror or a covered exterior spot is within rating. Direct weather exposure is not; wet-location fixtures are what you want there.
6) Is the Stretch BL-1630 swing arm light ADA compliant for guest room installs?
Yes, the fixture is listed as ADA compliant. Its projection off the wall is kept tight, with a 1.75 inch body width and a 5 inch backplate, which is what keeps a wall-mounted reading light inside the allowable protrusion for corridors and accessible guest rooms.
7) Does this WAC Stretch light meet California Title 24 for a residential project?
No. The BL-1630 is not Title 24 compliant and is not Energy Star rated. It does meet Title 20. If a California permit set calls for Title 24 compliant luminaires in that space, this is the wrong fixture for that line item.
8) Do I need to buy bulbs for the Stretch wall light, and what happens when the LED fails?
Nothing to order. The light source is an integrated LED, included, so there is no lamp socket and no relamping. It is rated for 50,000 hours at 3000K with a CRI of 90, which is the warm-white, good-color-rendering combination specified for bedside and reading applications. At end of life the fixture is replaced, not relamped, so standardizing on one finish across a property keeps future swaps simple.
9) What finishes does the WAC Stretch BL-1630 come in for matching existing guest room hardware?
Three finishes: black (BL-1630-BK), titanium (BL-1630-TT), and white (BL-1630-WT). All three are the same single-arm fixture, so you can mix finishes by room type and keep one spec across a building.
10) Is the BL-1630 a one-arm or two-arm fixture, and what if I need two reading lights at one headboard?
The BL-1630 is a single-head fixture, one integrated LED on one flexible arm. The Stretch collection is also offered in a two-arm configuration, so for a shared headboard where both occupants need their own aimable light off one canopy, specify the dual-arm version rather than two singles.
11) How far does the Stretch reading light stick out and how much wall height does it take?
The fixture is 12 inches in overall height and 1.75 inches wide, on a 5 inch backplate. The arm is flexible rubber tubing, so the actual projection is whatever you bend it to rather than a fixed reach, which is the point of this fixture over a rigid pivot-arm sconce.
