1) Is the WAC Hemmingway PL-LED14 picture light hardwired or does it come with a cord and plug?
The PL-LED14 Hemmingway is the hardwired version, so it needs a junction box behind the 4.5 inch backplate and a 120V feed. WAC does build the Hemmingway in a portable version as well, and those ship with an 8 foot cord and plug plus an 18 inch wire cover in a matching finish. If the wall is already finished and you do not want to open it up, the portable model is the one to order.
2) Will the Hemmingway PL-LED14 damage a painting or fade artwork?
No. The Hemmingway LED head puts out full spectrum light without the infrared and ultraviolet output of conventional lamps, which is what WAC calls Chronophoton Technology. Light is delivered through a frosted glass diffuser lens as a flood, at 2700K warm white, 595 lumens, so it washes the piece evenly rather than hot-spotting it.
3) What dimmer works with the WAC PL-LED14 LED picture light?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The integrated LED driver in the Hemmingway is ELV dimmable and gives smooth continuous dimming on that type; a standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong control and will usually give you flicker or drop-out. Load is small, 9.4W at 120V, so check the ELV dimmer's minimum load if you are putting only one or two on a circuit.
4) Can a Hemmingway picture light be used in a bathroom or a covered exterior entry?
Yes, within limits. The PL-LED14 carries a damp location rating and is IP44, which covers interiors and covered exterior spots such as a porch or loggia where it is shielded from direct rain. It is ETL and cETL listed for the US and Canada. Do not use it in an open, wet, weather-exposed position.
5) Do I need to order lamps separately for the WAC Hemmingway, and what happens when the LED fails?
Nothing to order. The Hemmingway uses a single integrated LED module, supplied with the fixture, rated at an average 70,000 hours. There is no socket or replaceable lamp, so the LED is not field-changed the way a bulb would be. For a property manager standardizing across a gallery or corridor, that means no relamping schedule to maintain.
6) Can the Hemmingway be mounted above a picture to shine down, or below to uplight it?
Both. Mounting is a wall-mount backplate and the fixture is rated for up or down orientation, with the head rotating a full 90 degrees either way. Most installs sit above the frame aimed down, but mounting below and aiming up works on tall pieces or where a frame's top rail would block the light.
