This LED 12V super bright and energy efficient strip light is IP68 rated for wet locations and continuous immersion up to 5 meters underwater making it the perfect choice for illuminating pools, ponds, wells, or just about any outdoor application. 1) Can the WAC 8101 LED strip light be submerged in a pool or pond?
Yes. The 8101 12VDC strip light is IP68 rated for wet locations and continuous immersion to 5 meters underwater, which covers pools, ponds, fountains and wells. The silicone casing is double insulated and UV stabilized, and the male-to-female end connectors tighten down to make the joint water tight. It also carries UL and cUL 1838 listing for that use.
2) What power supply do I need for the WAC 8101 12V strip light?
A magnetic or electronic 12V power supply is required, with an input range of 9 to 15V AC. WAC's stainless steel landscape transformers are the suggested match: 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W) or 9600-TRN (600W). If you already have a 12V landscape lighting system on site, the strip can tie into it directly.
3) Can the WAC 8101 strip light be cut to length on site?
It can be cut in the field, but only at the end of a run, and the leftover piece is dead once cut, it cannot be re-terminated and used elsewhere. Because of that, order by section length to suit the layout: 1ft, 5ft and 10ft sections are offered. The 10ft section measures 120 inches long, 0.5 inch wide and 0.75 inch high.
4) Will the 8101 strip light dim, and what kind of dimmer does it take?
Yes, it dims smoothly and continuously on an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer, on the line side of the 12V supply. The spec data also lists it as MLV dimmable, so a magnetic low voltage transformer and matched dimmer will work. Don't put it on a standard incandescent-only dimmer without checking the transformer type first.
5) What is the difference between the 2700K and 3000K versions of the WAC 8101?
Only color temperature. 8101-27BK is 2700K warm white, the softer amber-leaning tone most people want for pool coves and planting beds; 8101-30BK is 3000K warm white, slightly crisper and a better match to most newer landscape fixtures. Both come in black casing and are otherwise identical. If you are adding to an existing installation, match the number already in the ground.
6) Does the 8101 strip light come with connectors, or do I need to order them separately?
Male-to-female end connectors ship with the strip, and they tighten to form the water-tight joint between sections. The LEDs are integrated, so there are no lamps to buy. The lead wire is 4 inches, so plan the supply or junction location close to the start of the run or add low voltage landscape cable to reach it.
7) Is the WAC 8101 strip light Title 24 compliant and Dark Sky friendly for a California project?
Both are listed yes on the 8101: Title 24 compliant and Dark Sky, and it is UL and cUL listed with an IP68 rating. Rated life is 60,000 hours. That combination is what institutional and municipal specs usually ask for on exterior low voltage accent lighting.
8) How bright is the WAC 8101 strip light per foot?
115 lumens per foot at 2W per foot, with 85 CRI, so a 10ft section puts out roughly 530 lumens of usable output at 20W. That is a cove and accent output level, bright enough for step washing, water features and under-coping lighting, not a replacement for a path or flood fixture.
