This LED 12V super bright and energy efficient strip light is IP68 rated for wet locations and continuous immersion up to 5 meters underwater making it the perfect choice for illuminating pools, ponds, wells, or just about any outdoor application. 1) Can the WAC 8051 strip light be submerged in a pool or pond?
Yes. The 8051 LED strip light is IP68 rated for wet locations and continuous immersion to 5 meters underwater, which is what makes it usable in pools, ponds and wells rather than just under an eave. The silicone casing is double insulated and UV stabilized, and the male-to-female end connectors tighten down to make the joint water tight. It is UL and cUL listed as well.
2) What power supply do I need to run the WAC 8051 12V strip light?
A 12V magnetic or electronic power supply is required; the strip does not run on line voltage. Input range is 9 to 15V AC. WAC's stainless steel outdoor transformers suit it: 9075-TRN-SS at 75W, 9150-TRN-SS at 150W, 9300-TRN-SS at 300W, or 9600-TRN at 600W. If you already have a 12V landscape lighting system on site, you can tap the strip into that instead.
3) How long a continuous run of this WAC strip light can I make, and how do I size the transformer?
One continuous run tops out at 40 feet. You can run several 40 foot runs at once off the same power supply, home-running each back to the transformer. Load math is straightforward: the strip draws 2W per foot (up to 2VA), so a 40 foot run is about 80W, and four such runs would push you toward the 300W or 600W transformer.
4) Will the WAC 8051 strip light fit into a tight cove or under a stair nosing?
The profile is 0.5 inch wide by 0.75 inch high, so it tucks into shallow coves, stair nosings and cabinet toe kicks as well as outdoor ledges. Leads are 4 inches, which is short, so plan your junction or splice point close to the end of each section. Mounting is not reversible, so orient the strip for the light direction you want before fastening.
5) Is the WAC 8051 strip light dimmable, and with what kind of dimmer?
It dims smoothly and continuously on an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer, with the dimmer on the line side of the 12V transformer. The spec data also lists MLV dimming compatibility. No separate driver module is needed beyond the 12V supply.
6) Should I order the 2700K or 3000K version of the WAC 8051 strip light?
Both are warm. 2700K (model 8051-27BK) is the warmer, more amber tone that blends with incandescent and most existing landscape lighting; 3000K (8051-30BK) is a warm white that reads slightly cleaner against stone, water and modern facades. Both ship in black casing with a clear silicone lens over the LEDs. If you are extending an existing WAC landscape run, match whatever is already installed.
7) How bright is the WAC 8051 strip light, and how good is the color rendering?
Output is 115 lumens per foot, so the 60 inch section delivers roughly 260 lumens total. CRI is 85, which is enough for planting beds, water features and architectural cove work where you care about how foliage and stonework read. Rated life is 60,000 hours.
8) What comes in the box with the WAC 8051, and do I need to buy lamps?
You get the strip light section plus male-to-female end connectors. The LEDs are integrated, so there is nothing to lamp and nothing to replace later. What is not included is the 12V power supply, any dimmer, and mounting clips or channel, so budget those separately on the job.
9) Can I use this WAC strip light indoors too, or is it outdoor only?
Rated for both. The 8051 carries a wet location rating and is listed for indoor and outdoor use, so the same part works in a shower niche, a walk-in cooler surround or a kitchen cove as it does in a planter bed. It is not Energy Star certified, though it does meet Title 24.
10) Does this WAC landscape strip light meet dark sky requirements for a municipality that enforces them?
