Designed to disappear, the low profile Vibe picture light features a canopy that both hides behind the artwork and serves as the mount. 1) Does the WAC Vibe PL-LED37 picture light need to be hardwired, or can it plug in?
The PL-LED37 as configured is the hardwired version, running on 120V. WAC builds the Vibe in both hardwired and portable form, and the portable version ships with an 8 foot cord and plug plus an 18 inch wire cover in the matching finish. If there is no junction box behind the art, you want the portable variant, not this one.
2) How wide a painting will a 15 inch Vibe picture light cover?
The fixture measures 15 inches wide with a 14 inch height dimension and a 4 inch backplate, and the head throws a 110 degree beam that rotates 35 degrees up or down. That wide flood spread plus the tilt is what lets a 15 inch bar wash artwork considerably larger than itself. The Vibe comes in three lengths, so step to a shorter one for small pieces.
3) What dimmer works with the WAC Vibe LED picture light?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The Vibe is ELV dimmable and dims smoothly and continuously on one; a standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong control and will give you flicker or drop-out at the low end. Budget the load at 23W per fixture on a 120V circuit.
4) Can this picture light go in a bathroom or a covered porch?
Yes, within limits. The Vibe carries a damp location rating and IP44, with ETL and cETL listings, so interior or exterior covered locations are fine. Covered means genuinely sheltered from direct rain, not an open wall.
