WAC Lighting WAC-PL-LED15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the WAC Vibe PL-LED15 picture light need a junction box, or can it be plugged in?
The PL-LED15 as supplied is the hardwired version, so it needs a 120V supply brought to the mounting location behind the artwork. WAC does build the Vibe in a portable version that ships with an 8 foot cord and plug plus an 18 inch wire cover in a matching finish, but that is a different order code. If there is no box behind the art and you cannot fish power, specify the portable instead.
2) What size artwork does the 15 inch WAC Vibe picture light suit?
At 15 inches wide with a 110 degree beam and a head that tilts 35 degrees up or down, the 15 inch Vibe is aimed at smaller to mid-size framed pieces, roughly in the range of its own width up to a couple of feet wide. The Vibe comes in three lengths, so for larger canvases step up to a longer head rather than trying to stretch coverage from the 15.
3) Will the WAC Vibe picture light work on a standard wall dimmer?
No. The Vibe LED picture light dims only on an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. A standard incandescent/forward-phase dimmer will flicker, buzz, or fail to dim the 8.5W LED driver. Spec an ELV-rated dimmer on the circuit.
4) Can this picture light be mounted in a covered entry or a bathroom gallery wall?
Yes, within limits. The Vibe PL-LED15 carries a Damp location rating with IP44 and ETL/cETL listing, so it is good for interior use or exterior covered locations like a soffit or covered porch. It is not a wet location fixture, so keep it out of direct rain and out of shower enclosures.
5) How much light does the WAC Vibe PL-LED15 put out, and what color is it?
595 lumens at 2700K from an integrated LED drawing 8.5W. That is a warm, residential-gallery color through a frosted acrylic lens, with a flood distribution rather than a tight spot. One light source, lamp included, so there is nothing to relamp.
6) Will the canopy be hidden behind a small frame?
The mounting canopy doubles as the backplate and measures 4 inches, so it tucks behind most framed pieces. The head itself is under an inch in diameter and the whole fixture projects forward from that canopy, which is what lets it sit against the art without a visible bracket. For very small or very thin frames, measure the frame against that 4 inch backplate before you commit.
7) Does the WAC Vibe picture light meet California Title 24?
Yes. The PL-LED15 is listed as both Title 20 and Title 24 compliant, which is what a spec job in California will ask for. It is not Energy Star rated and it is not an ADA compliant fixture, so if you are mounting in a corridor or path of travel with projection limits, check that separately.
8) Is this picture light durable enough for a hotel or multi-family corridor with no maintenance access?
The housing is aluminum with an acrylic shade, and the LED is rated for an average 70,000 hours, so there is no lamp replacement cycle to budget for. Burning 8 hours a night that is well over 20 years of service. Just remember the whole fixture is a sealed integrated LED, so at end of life you replace the unit, not a bulb.
9) Can the WAC Vibe be aimed down at a painting or up at something above it?
Both. The head rotates 35 degrees up or down from the canopy, and the fixture is listed for wall mounting in either an up or down orientation. That lets you wall-wash a piece hung above the fixture or graze down across a canvas hung below it.
10) What finish does the 15 inch Vibe picture light come in?
Black, ordered as PL-LED15-27-BK, with the 2700K source. On the portable version WAC supplies the wire cover in a matching finish, so the cord run stays consistent with the head.
