WAC Lighting WAC-FM-63216 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Chaucer LED flush mount work on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
Yes for both, within limits. Chaucer carries a Damp location rating with IP44, so it is fine in a bathroom or under a covered porch, soffit, or breezeway. It is not rated for wet locations, so keep it out of direct rain or spray.
2) Does this WAC Chaucer fixture need a 120V circuit, or can it run on 277V in a commercial building?
Either. The driver is concealed in the fixture and accepts 120V, 240V, or 277V universal input, so the same part number works on residential 120V branch circuits and on 277V commercial lighting circuits with no separate transformer or alternate SKU. It is hardwired, so there is no plug or cord.
3) What kind of dimmer do I need for the Chaucer LED semi-flush mount?
It dims on electronic low voltage (ELV), TRIAC, or 0-10V controls. Standard incandescent/MLV dimmers are not on that list, so if you are reusing an existing box, confirm the dimmer is an ELV or TRIAC type (or a 0-10V control with the right wiring) before you energize it.
4) Does the 16 inch Chaucer meet California Title 24 for a residential install?
Yes. The fixture is listed as both Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, and it is ETL and cETL certified for the US and Canada. Note it is not Energy Star rated and not ADA compliant, so for wall mounting in a corridor or other path of travel where ADA projection limits apply, specify a different fixture.
5) Can the LED be replaced in the Chaucer fixture, or is the whole unit disposable?
The LED is integrated, not a lamp in a socket, so there is nothing to relamp. The LED board is supplied in the fixture and rated for 50,000 hours, which is the service figure to plan around for a facility or MRO replacement schedule.
6) What color light does the Chaucer put out, and how much power does it draw?
A soft white 3000K with a 90 CRI, drawing 23.69W. The light output is a flood distribution spread through a silicone diffuser ring rather than a directional beam, so it reads as general ambient light. 3000K is the only color temperature offered.
7) Is a 16 inch semi-flush ring like the Chaucer right for a low ceiling, or should I use a recessed fixture?
At 5.63 inches of projection, a semi-flush ring works on 8 foot ceilings where a pendant would be in the way but you still want a visible decorative element. If you need zero projection or a clean ceiling plane, go recessed instead. The Chaucer's advantage over recessed is that it needs no plenum depth and can be mounted on a sloped ceiling or turned sideways onto a wall off its 5 inch backplate.
8) What finishes does the Chaucer 16 inch semi-flush come in?
Two: matte black and white, both on an aluminum body with a silicone diffuser. The base model number is FM-63216, with -BK and -WT finish suffixes. Spec the same suffix across a building if you are standardizing a fleet of openings or corridors.
