1) Can the WAC Arne BL-48007 reading light mount over an existing junction box, or does it need a special rough-in?
The Arne installs over a standard or pancake junction box, so an existing wall box in a headboard wall works. The backplate is 5 inches, which is what has to cover the box opening. It's a hardwired fixture, not a plug-in, and the driver is integral so there's no remote transformer to find room for.
