WAC Lighting 7" LED 12V Adjustable Wall Wash
This state-of-the-art landscape lighting wall wash is packed with features and is available in 12V or 120V in 2700K or 3000K color temperature options. The adjustable wall wash light engine can also be rotated 90 degrees vertical to create a uniform wall wash that can adapt to changing needs. A simple twist of the dial located at the back of the fixture allows continuous beam angle adjustment with indexed intervals from flood to spot while a mechanical dial at the base provides smooth integral brightness control. One sku fits most applications, eliminating the need to choose from dozens of light bulbs with varying beam angles and light outputs when compared with traditional landscape lights. Factory sealed and water tight with an IP66 rating for protection against high-pressure water jets and outdoor elements. Casted using a special k-alloy aluminum that is engineered to withstand the most challenging environments over time. Solid brass coated in bronze (-BBR finish) is available for enhanced protection against corrosive elements and is recommended for use in coastal or marine environments. A detachable shroud is included along with a 9in mounting spike for 12V fixtures (120V fixtures require Sku# M6000-STAKE, power stake sold separately). WAC Lighting WAC-5221 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the WAC 5221 wall wash need a separate transformer, or can I wire it straight to line voltage?
The 5221 is the low voltage version and runs on 9-15VAC, so it needs a magnetic or electronic 12V power supply, sold separately. You cannot land it on a 120V circuit. If the run is line voltage, you want the 120V version of the fixture instead, and note that the 120V fixture does not include a spike (it takes the M6000-STAKE power stake, sold separately).
2) Can one fixture cover both a narrow column and a wide wall, or do I need different beam angles?
One SKU covers both. A dial behind the light engine gives continuous beam adjustment with indexed stops, moving the distribution between 3x4, 4x5 and 5x6, roughly 50 to 80 degrees. Output tracks from 3W up to 25W, about 300 to 1500 lumens on the dial range. The light engine also rotates 90 degrees vertical for a true wall wash. That is why spec'ing this does not mean picking from a dozen lamp and beam combinations.
3) Which finish should I use on an oceanfront property?
Go with the solid brass coated in bronze (-BBR) for coastal or marine sites. Brass gives added protection against corrosive elements and is what WAC recommends there. The bronze and black K-alloy aluminum versions are also rated for coastal and marine use, but brass is the heavier-duty choice where salt spray is constant. Both 2700K and 3000K are offered in brass, as 5221-27BBR and 5221-30BBR.
4) Is the WAC 5221 safe to install where sprinklers hit it or in standing wet ground?
It is factory sealed and water tight with an IP66 rating, which covers high pressure water jets, and it carries a Wet location rating for outdoor use. Certification is UL and cUL to 1838, the low voltage landscape lighting standard. Irrigation spray and direct weather are within what it is built for.
5) What comes in the box with the 5221, and what do I still have to buy?
You get the complete fixture with its integrated replaceable LED, a 9 inch PC mounting spike, a 36 inch lead wire, a detachable glare shroud, and two Ideal gel filled direct burial wire nuts. What is not included: the 12V magnetic or electronic power supply, and any of the alternate mounting or glare control accessories.
6) What dimmer works with the WAC 5221 landscape wall wash?
Magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimming only. Paired with an MLV dimmer on the transformer's primary side, the output dims smoothly and continuously. There is also a mechanical dial at the base of the fixture that sets brightness integrally, so you can trim each fixture in a run without touching the dimmer.
7) Can the LED be replaced, or is the whole fixture scrap when it fails?
The LED is integrated but replaceable, so the head does not have to be dug out and rebought when the source ages. Rated life is 70,000 hours. For a property manager standardizing a site, that matters more than the lumen number: one fixture type, one serviceable part.
8) Should I pick 2700K or 3000K for the WAC adjustable wall wash?
Both are offered across all three finishes. 2700K reads warmer and blends with incandescent or older halogen landscape heads already on a property, which is usually the right call when you are adding to an existing system. 3000K is slightly cooler and cleaner on stone and light stucco. Order codes end -27 or -30, for example 5221-27BZ versus 5221-30BZ in bronze.
9) Does this WAC landscape fixture meet California Title 24?
Yes, the 5221 is listed as Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated. For a spec job in California, the Title 24 line plus the UL/cUL 1838 listing is what the plan checker is normally looking for on a low voltage landscape head.
10) Can I splice the 5221 directly into buried low voltage cable without a junction box?
Yes. It ships with two Ideal gel filled direct burial wire nuts sized for the connection, and the fixture has a 36 inch lead wire to reach your main run. It is a hardwired fixture, not a plug-in, so the splice is the connection point. Keep the splice accessible enough to service later.
11) How much room does the 5221 take up above grade?
The fixture body measures 7 inches high, 6.25 inches long and 5.38 inches wide, and it mounts on the supplied 9 inch spike, so allow for the spike depth below grade as well. Lens is clear glass. Plan the planting bed clearance around that head size if you are washing a wall from close in.
12) How do I control glare when this is aimed up a wall near a walkway?
A detachable shroud ships with the fixture and is the first thing to install where the head sits near a path or a window. Beyond that, WAC offers additional glare control and mounting accessories sold separately. Narrowing the beam dial toward the 3x4 distribution also tightens the spill.
