1) Can the WAC Saltaire WS-63322 sconce be used outside on a covered porch or entry?
Yes, within limits. The Saltaire sconce is Damp location listed and rated IP44, so it works indoors or in covered exterior areas like a soffit, porch ceiling overhang, or breezeway. It is not wet location rated, so keep it out of spots where rain or sprinkler spray hits the fixture directly.
2) Does this WAC sconce work on 277V commercial lighting circuits?
It does. The driver is universal input, 120V, 240V or 277V, and it is concealed inside the canopy, so the same part number can go on 120V residential branch circuits and 277V commercial panels without ordering a different version. That makes it practical for a multi-family or hospitality job where corridors run 277V.
3) Is the Saltaire sconce ADA compliant for a corridor or egress path?
No. The Saltaire is not ADA compliant, so it should not be used in a corridor or circulation path where protruding objects are restricted. For those locations you want a shallow ADA sconce instead. It is fine on walls outside the protected path, such as a bedroom, entry pier, or vanity flank.
4) Will this WAC sconce satisfy Title 24 on a California project?
Not on its own. The Saltaire is Title 20 listed but is not Title 24 compliant, so for a California residential or nonresidential permit you would need to handle the Title 24 requirement another way or choose a JA8-type compliant fixture for that location. It is also not Energy Star rated.
5) Do I need to buy bulbs for the WAC Saltaire wall sconce?
No separate lamp is needed. It is an integrated LED fixture, one light source, included, drawing 19.7W and putting out 2135 lumens at 3000K. Average rated life is 50,000 hours. Because the LED is integral there is no socket to relamp, so a failed board means replacing the fixture or the LED assembly rather than screwing in a new bulb.
6) How much wall space does the 22 inch Saltaire sconce take up, and will it clear a door casing?
The fixture is 22 inches in height with a 3 inch diameter body, and the backplate measures 4.5 inches. It is a slender vertical form, so it reads tall and narrow on the wall and fits tight pier spaces beside a door or between mirrors where a wide sconce will not. Mounting is wall, vertical orientation.
7) Does the Saltaire sconce light the whole wall or just throw light down?
Both, in different ways. Focused downlight comes out of the bottom of the slim finial with a flood beam spread, while the opal glass diffuser spreads ambient light through the body. So you get a usable pool of light on the floor or a task surface plus a soft glow along the wall, rather than uplight.
8) Can I get the Saltaire sconce in a color temperature other than 3000K?
As ordered it ships 3000K warm white in a black finish. WAC does offer custom CCT on the Saltaire as a special order, so if your job spec calls for 2700K or 3500K to match existing fixtures it has to be placed as a special-order CCT rather than picked off the shelf.
9) Is the Saltaire sconce hardwired or does it plug in?
Hardwired. It mounts to a wall box and wires in, with the universal 120-240-277V driver hidden in the canopy, so an electrician and a junction box at the mounting height are required. There is no cord or plug option, which also means the dimming has to come from the ELV wall control on the circuit.
10) What is the Saltaire sconce made of, and will it hold up in a coastal or humid covered entry?
Construction is aluminum with an opal glass diffuser, and the fixture carries ETL and cETL listings plus IP44 for dust and splash resistance. Aluminum plus the damp rating makes it suitable for humid covered locations such as a hotel entry soffit or exterior corridor, but it is a damp-location fixture, not a wet-location or marine-rated one.
