WAC Lighting WAC-6081 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Ledge path light run off my existing 12V landscape lighting system?
Yes. The Ledge LED path light is a 12V fixture that taps into an existing low voltage landscape run. It accepts 9-15V AC input and draws 3W (4.5VA), so you can figure it into your transformer load budget at 4.5VA per head. The fixture is hardwired, with a 36 inch lead wire and two gel filled direct burial wire nuts included for the splice. A magnetic or electronic power supply is required and is not included.
2) What do I actually get in the box, and what else do I have to buy?
The box holds the complete Ledge fixture with its replaceable LED, a 9 inch PC mounting spike, a 36 inch lead wire, and two Ideal direct burial wire nuts. You still need a power supply, magnetic or electronic, which is sold separately. If you want a sturdier anchor than the plastic spike, the Guardian Spike 9000-SP9-BZ is a separate item, and other mounting and glare control accessories are sold separately as well.
3) Is the aluminum WAC Ledge path light OK for a coastal or oceanfront property?
For salt air, spec the solid brass version coated in bronze (the -BBR finish), which WAC recommends for coastal and marine environments. The standard Ledge body is cast k-alloy aluminum, which holds up in most environments but is not the corrosion choice for shoreline installs. For inland commercial and residential sites, the aluminum is the normal spec.
4) Does the WAC Ledge path light meet California Title 24 and ADA requirements for a commercial project?
Yes on both. The Ledge is flagged Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant, and it is UL and cUL listed for wet locations. It is not Energy Star rated. Those are the line items a spec reviewer on an institutional or multi-family job typically asks for.
5) What dimmer works with the WAC Ledge 12V LED path light?
Use a magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimmer. The Ledge dims smooth and continuous on MLV; it is not a TRIAC/ELV or 0-10V fixture, so pair it with a magnetic transformer and an MLV-rated dimmer on the line side. Anything else risks flicker or drop-out at the low end.
6) How bright is the WAC Ledge path light and what color does it throw?
It's a low-output accent-level path light, not a floodlight: one integrated LED at 3W producing up to 120 lumens, with a CRI of 90 through a frosted glass lens. Color temperature is your choice at order, 2700K warm or 3000K. Rated life is 60,000 hours. If you need to wash a driveway or a wide bed, this is the wrong fixture class.
7) Will the Ledge path light survive irrigation spray and pressure washing?
It's factory sealed and water tight at IP66, which covers high-pressure water jets as well as rain and sprinkler overspray, and it carries a Wet location rating. Sprinkler heads hitting it directly are not a problem. IP66 is not a submersion rating, so it is not intended for fountains, ponds, or spots that pool underwater.
8) How tall does the Ledge path light stand, and how much space does it need along a walk?
The Ledge measures 23 inches high, 5.5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide, plus the 9 inch spike that goes into the ground. Height above grade makes it a walkway-height marker rather than a low bollard, so allow clearance from mower decks and snow removal paths when you lay out the run.
9) What finishes does the WAC Ledge 23 inch path light come in, and can I mix color temperatures?
Two finishes, black and bronze, and each is orderable in 2700K or 3000K: 6081-27BK, 6081-27BZ, 6081-30BK, 6081-30BZ. On a property where you are adding to an existing run, match the color temperature as well as the finish, since 2700K next to 3000K reads as a mismatch along a walkway even when the fixtures are identical.
10) Can I mount the Ledge path light other than on the included spike?
Yes, but not by flipping it. The Ledge is not reversible mounting. It ships with a 9 inch plastic spike for soft ground; for a more durable anchor WAC offers the Guardian Spike 9000-SP9-BZ, and additional mounting accessories plus glare control options are sold separately. On hardscape or paver work, plan on one of those accessories rather than the included spike.
11) If the LED fails years from now, do I replace the whole Ledge fixture?
No. The LED module in the Ledge is listed as replaceable, so a failed board does not mean pulling and rewiring the head. That matters on a property where you have a run of these and want to keep the same fixture and finish rather than re-spec the whole path.
