WAC Lighting Step and Wall Lights are designed to seamlessly blend into any architecture featuring a sleek interchangeable magnetic faceplate with no visible hardware. 1) Can this WAC step light be used outdoors on an exposed stair?
Yes. The light engine is IP66 sealed and the fixture is wet location rated, so exposed stairs, walkways and exterior walls are all fair game. The body is die-cast corrosion resistant aluminum alloy. One caveat on finish: brushed nickel is interior only, and for coastal or salt air installs WAC calls for the marine grade stainless steel version.
2) Amber or 3000K: which should I spec for an outdoor stair?
Two color choices on the WL-LED130. Amber uses an amber diffuser lens and puts out a warm, low glare wash that's commonly chosen for coastal and dark sky sensitive sites. The 3000K version gives conventional warm white with a CRI of 90, better when you want the stair tread and surrounding finishes to read true. Both come in black, bronze, stainless steel and white on aluminum.
3) Does the WAC WL-LED130 meet California Title 24?
Yes, in the 120V configuration. It's CEC listed and Title 24 compliant, and it carries ETL and cETL listings along with the IP66 rating. It is also ADA compliant, which matters for the low profile flush mount on an egress stair. It is not Energy Star rated.
4) Which finish should I order for a building near the ocean?
Stainless steel. WAC calls out the marine grade rated stainless for coastal environments, ordered as WL-LED130-AM-SS in amber or WL-LED130-C-SS in 3000K. The painted black, bronze and white finishes are on die-cast aluminum and are the standard choice inland.
5) What dimmer works with the WAC WL-LED130?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. It dims smooth and continuous from 100% down to 10%. Standard incandescent or MLV dimmers are not the right control for it.
6) Is this WAC step light bright enough for a walkway, or is it just a marker?
It's a low output marker-level fixture, not a path floodlight. Delivered output is in the 40 to 68 lumen range from a 3.5W LED behind a diffused tempered glass lens, meant to graze a tread or wall with little or no glare. For lighting a full walkway surface you'd space several of them or add a separate path light.
7) Can the WL-LED130 be installed sideways, or does it have to be vertical?
Either orientation. The fixture can be mounted vertically or horizontally, so you can match the box orientation you already have in the wall rather than re-cutting. Mounting is wall type, hardwired.
8) If the LED fails, do I have to replace the whole step light?
No. The LED module is replaceable, and it's offered in blue, red and amber color options if you want to change the look later. Rated life on the module is 50,000 hours. The faceplate is magnetic with no visible hardware, so you pull the plate to get at the module without disturbing the wiring.
9) Will the faceplate hardware be visible once it's installed?
No visible fasteners. The faceplate is held magnetically and the mounting hardware is tamper proof and non-visible, sitting flush to the wall. It's an interchangeable plate, so you can swap finish without replacing the light engine.
