WAC Lighting WAC-WL-LED110 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the WAC WL-LED110 step light need an LED driver or transformer?
No driver, no transformer. The WL-LED110 is direct wired at line voltage, either 120V or 277V depending on which version you order, and it is a hardwired fixture. That's the practical difference from low voltage landscape step lights, which need a transformer run. On 120V it is CEC Title 24 compliant.
2) Can the WAC LED horizontal scoop step light be used outdoors and in wet areas?
Wet location rated and sealed to IP66, so it works on exterior stairs, walkways and walls as well as indoors. One caveat that catches people out: the Brushed Nickel finish is interior only. For exterior work order Black, Bronze or White on aluminum. Coastal installations are a different conversation again, since salt air is harder on painted aluminum than inland weather.
3) Does the WAC WL-LED110 step light meet ADA and Title 24?
ADA compliant and CEC listed, with Title 24 compliance on the 120V version. It is ETL and cETL listed, and IP66 sealed. For a school, healthcare or government job where the egress path has to clear both the accessibility projection limit and the California energy code, those are the two boxes it ticks, and the 1.75 inch height is what keeps it inside the ADA projection allowance.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC WL-LED110 step light?
An electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The WL-LED110 dims smooth and continuous from 100 percent down to 10 percent on an ELV control. A standard incandescent/forward phase dimmer or a 0-10V control is the wrong device here, and pairing the wrong dimmer is the usual cause of flicker or drop-out on a run of these.
5) Is 36 lumens enough light for a stairwell or walkway?
The WL-LED110 is a shielded marker light, not a floodlight. Its louvered scoop throws a downward wash onto the tread or paving with little or no glare, and at 36 delivered lumens each you space them along the run rather than relying on one. For a stair, that usually means a fixture every few risers or at each landing. If you need to actually light an area rather than define its edge, this is the wrong fixture type and you want a wall pack or path light instead.
6) How do you service or change the lens on a WAC magnetic faceplate step light?
The faceplate is magnetic and interchangeable, so it pulls off by hand with no screws to back out and no visible hardware on the face. The LED module behind it is replaceable and comes in Blue, Red and Amber options, which is how you recolor an installed fixture without rewiring. For a property manager maintaining a run of these, that means a lamp change is a faceplate pull rather than a fixture swap.
7) What finish should I specify for a coastal or oceanfront building?
For salt air exposure, WAC recommends the marine grade stainless steel finish rather than the painted aluminum options. The WL-LED110 body itself is die-cast corrosion resistant aluminum alloy, which holds up fine inland, but a beachfront balcony or a boardwalk stair is where the stainless version earns its place. Brushed Nickel is not an outdoor finish at all.
8) Can I run the WAC WL-LED110 step lights on a 277V commercial circuit?
Yes. The fixture accepts 120 VAC or 277 VAC at 50/60Hz with direct wiring and no separate driver. On a commercial or multi-family job already distributing 277V, that saves you a step-down transformer for the egress lighting. Note the Title 24 compliance is stated for the 120V version, so if the job is in California on 277V, verify the energy code path separately.
9) How long do these WAC LED step lights last before they need relamping?
Rated life is 50,000 hours on the integrated LED module, with bulbs included. Run dusk to dawn at roughly 12 hours a day, that's over eleven years of service. When it does go, the module is replaceable behind the magnetic faceplate rather than the whole fixture, which matters when you have fifty of them down a corridor.
