12V step and wall lights by WAC Landscape Lighting are offered in a variety of styles and can be installed on existing 12V landscape lighting systems. Available in 3000K warm white, 2700K warm or amber warm LED color temperatures - order accordingly. Factory sealed and water tight with an IP66 rating for protection against high-pressure water jets and outdoor elements. WAC Lighting WAC-4061 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I add a WAC 4061 step light to an existing 12V landscape lighting system, or does it need its own transformer?
It runs off any standard 12V low voltage landscape system, with an input range of 9-15V AC. A magnetic or electronic 12V power supply is required and is sold separately. WAC's own stainless steel outdoor transformers cover the range: 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W), and 9600-TRN-SS (600W). At 2W (3VA) per fixture, a run of these adds very little load to a transformer that is already in service.
2) Is the WAC 4061 louvered step light rated for outdoor wall and stair use in wet weather?
Yes. It is factory sealed and water tight, IP66 rated against high pressure water jets, and carries a Wet location rating with UL and cUL 1838 listing. The body is cast k-alloy aluminum. For coastal or marine sites, WAC offers stainless steel (-SS) and solid brass coated in bronze (-BBR) versions for better corrosion resistance.
3) Which color temperature should I order for the WAC 4061, and can I change it later?
Color temperature is fixed at order: 2700K warm, 3000K warm white, or amber. Order accordingly, since the LED is integrated and the temperature is not field adjustable. What you can change is the lens, the fixture ships with interchangeable clear, amber, red and blue lenses plus the frosted glass lens, so you can tint the beam without swapping the fixture.
4) What mounting hardware comes with the WAC 4061 step light and what do I still need to buy?
In the box: the step light, a replaceable LED, the interchangeable lens set, a junction box mounting bracket, and hardware. The fixture is hardwired with a 6 inch wire lead, so it mounts to a junction box in the wall. You supply the box itself, the 12V transformer, and any low voltage cable for the run.
5) What size opening do I need for the WAC 4061 vertical louvered step light?
Faceplate footprint is 3.13 inches wide by 5 inches high, with a backplate height of 3.13 inches and a product length (depth behind the face) of 1.75 inches. Plan the wall cavity and junction box location around that 1.75 inch depth plus the 6 inch wire lead.
6) Can the WAC 4061 step light be dimmed, and what kind of dimmer do I need?
It dims smoothly and continuously down to 10 percent, but only on a Magnetic Low Voltage (MLV) dimmer. Pair it with an MLV dimmer on the line side of a magnetic transformer. A standard incandescent or ELV dimmer is not the specified control for this fixture.
7) Will the WAC 4061 step light satisfy Title 24 and ADA requirements on a commercial project?
Both are listed as compliant: the fixture is Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant, which matters on a stair or corridor wall where projection into the path of travel is limited. It also meets Dark Sky criteria for the louvered downward throw. It is not Energy Star rated.
8) If the LED fails after a few years, do I have to replace the whole WAC 4061 fixture?
No. The LED module is replaceable, so the cast housing stays in the wall. Rated life is 60,000 hours, which for a dusk to dawn landscape run is well over a decade of service. That replaceability is the practical difference from a sealed throwaway step light when you are maintaining dozens of them across a property.
9) Can I flip the WAC 4061 louvered step light to aim the light upward?
No, the mounting is not reversible on this model. The vertical louvered face directs light one way by design, so orient the fixture correctly at rough-in. If you need a different distribution, look at the other styles in WAC's 12V step and wall light family rather than trying to invert this one.
10) What finishes does the WAC 4061 come in for matching existing fixtures on a building?
Three finishes across all three color temperatures: black, bronze, and white. Every combination is orderable, so a 2700K black (4061-27BK), a 3000K bronze (4061-30BZ), or an amber white (4061-AMWT) are all available if you need to match existing openings while changing the light color.
11) Can the WAC 4061 step light be used indoors, for example in a theater aisle or interior stairwell?
Yes, it is rated for indoor and outdoor use. The wet location rating and IP66 seal simply mean it is overbuilt for an interior stairwell. Indoors you still need the 12V supply and a junction box, and the low 60 lumen output with a frosted glass lens keeps it out of viewers' eyes in a darkened aisle.
