1) Does the WAC WL-LED102 step light need a low voltage transformer, or does it run on line voltage?
It runs on 120V line voltage, hardwired. No transformer or driver is needed ahead of it, which is why it lands in a standard J-box on the same circuit as the rest of the stair or path lighting. If you already have a 12V landscape system on site, this is not the fixture to hang off it.
2) What does the photocell on the WAC WL-LED102 actually do, and do I still need a separate control?
The built in daylight photocell sensor turns the step light on at dusk and off at dawn on its own. For a stairwell or entry walk where nobody wants to think about a timer or a switch, that is the whole control scheme. Property managers running dozens of exterior openings get consistent dusk to dawn operation without wiring an astronomic timeclock. If you want scheduled or dimmed control instead, choose a step light without the photocell option.
3) Can the WAC LEDme 3 inch step light be installed outdoors in a coastal or wet location?
Wet location rated, UL and cUL listed, and IP66 sealed against high pressure water jets. The body is cast k-alloy aluminum. For salt air or marine exposure, order the stainless steel or bronze finish rather than black or white. Brushed nickel is an interior only finish, so keep that one inside.
4) Is the WAC WL-LED102 step light ADA compliant for a stairwell or corridor?
ADA compliant, and Title 24 compliant for California projects. The fixture is a 3 inch square face with a 1.5 inch depth, so it sits close to the wall in a path of travel. Institutional and multifamily specifiers get both the accessibility and the California energy compliance box checked from one part number.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the WAC WL-LED102 step light?
Two choices: LED color and finish. Color is 3000K warm white or amber. Finish is black, brushed nickel, bronze, stainless steel, or white.
