1) What finishes does the WAC Lighting WL-LED100-AM step light come in?
Seven finishes are offered on the WL-LED100-AM: Bronze on Brass (WL-LED100-AM-BBR), Black on Aluminum (-BK), Brushed Nickel (-BN), Bronze on Aluminum (-BZ), Graphite on Aluminum (-GH), Stainless Steel (-SS), and White on Aluminum (-WT). Note that the Bronze on Brass version uses a brass body while the rest are aluminum, apart from the stainless steel one, which matters if you are matching existing hardware or specifying for a coastal install.
2) Does the WAC LEDme WL-LED100-AM run on line voltage or does it need a low voltage transformer?
It is a 120V line voltage fixture, so no landscape transformer is involved. You wire it straight to a 120V branch circuit, which is why it is commonly used on stair walls, entry walls, and corridors where there is already line voltage in the wall rather than on a low voltage landscape run.
3) What color light does the WL-LED100-AM put out, and will it match my 3000K step lights?
The AM in WL-LED100-AM means amber. Amber is a deep yellow output, not a white, so it will not blend with 2700K or 3000K white step lights on the same run or stairway. Amber is chosen on purpose for dark sky sensitive sites, coastal turtle-friendly lighting ordinances, and marker lighting where you want presence without glare. If you need white light to match existing fixtures, specify a different color temperature in the LEDme WL-LED100 family instead of the AM version.
4) Is the WAC WL-LED100 a horizontal or vertical step light?
Horizontal. The LEDme WL-LED100 throws its light across the tread or along the wall in a wide horizontal wash, which is what you want for stair nosings and pathway edges. If your opening or the design calls for a tall vertical aperture, this is the wrong orientation and you should look at a vertical-format step light instead.
5) Can I use the WAC LEDme WL-LED100-AM outdoors on an exterior stair?
Yes, it is part of WAC's landscape line and sold as an outdoor step and wall light, so exterior stairs, retaining walls, and pathway walls are the intended use. For salt air or heavy wash-down exposure, the Stainless Steel version (WL-LED100-AM-SS) or the brass-bodied Bronze on Brass (WL-LED100-AM-BBR) hold up better than the painted aluminum finishes.
6) I am ordering WL-LED100 step lights for a multi-family stairwell. What exactly do I need to specify?
Two choices on the order: the color temperature and the finish. For the amber version you are ordering WL-LED100-AM plus the finish suffix, so a bronze aluminum unit is WL-LED100-AM-BZ and a white one is WL-LED100-AM-WT. Buy all units from the same finish code if you are standardizing a building, since Bronze on Brass and Bronze on Aluminum are separate part numbers and separate materials even though both read as bronze.
