WAC Lighting PD-81131-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Sirius PD-81131 pendant be installed over a covered patio or a bathroom?
The Sirius LED pendant is damp location listed, so it works indoors or in covered outdoor areas like a porch, breezeway or covered patio, and in a bath. It also carries an IP44 rating along with ETL and cETL listings. What it is not rated for is direct exposure to rain or sprinklers, so keep it under cover.
2) What size junction box opening does the Sirius pendant cover, and is a driver or transformer needed above the ceiling?
The round canopy measures 10.38 inches in diameter, which covers a standard round or octagonal ceiling box with room to spare. The LED driver is housed inside the canopy itself, so there is no remote driver to find space for. It is a hardwired 120V fixture at 70W, so plan a standard line voltage feed.
3) Which dimmer works with the WAC Sirius PD-81131?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer. Those are the two control types this pendant is rated for, and either gives smooth continuous dimming. A 0-10V or DALI control will not drive it, since the driver is integral and expects line voltage phase dimming.
4) Do I need to order bulbs or a separate LED module for the Sirius pendant?
No separate lamps. The Sirius uses an integrated LED with the driver built in, and the light source ships in the fixture. It is rated for 50,000 average hours, so there is nothing to relamp during normal service life. When the LED eventually fails, the fixture is replaced rather than re-lamped, which is worth knowing for an MRO parts plan.
5) What finishes does the Sirius PD-81131 come in, and do they all use the same color temperature?
Four finishes: Aged Brass (PD-81131-AB), Brushed Aluminum (PD-81131-AL), Black (PD-81131-BK) and White (PD-81131-WT). Every one is 3000K, so you can mix finishes across a project and the light color stays consistent from room to room.
6) Does the Sirius pendant meet California Title 24 for a residential or commercial lighting permit?
Title 24 compliant and Title 20 listed, which is what a California inspector will look for on a permitted job. It is also ADA compliant. Note it is not Energy Star qualified, so if a utility rebate program requires Energy Star specifically, this one will not qualify for it.
7) I want matching Sirius pendants in different sizes over one island. Is 30.5 inches the only size?
The Sirius collection is built in 18, 24 and 31 inch diameters; PD-81131 is the 31 inch version, measuring 30.5 inches across. Running a 31 inch with smaller siblings over a long island or a stair works because the ring profile, finish options and 3000K output are consistent across the family.
8) How thin is the Sirius ring, and what is it actually made of?
The halo is only 1.63 inches tall on a 30.5 inch diameter, so it reads as a thin floating ring rather than a bulky drum. Body is aluminum with silicone diffusers on the top and bottom edges. The silicone is what lets it hold up in a damp location and keeps the lit edges free of visible hot spots.
9) Are there exposed power cords on the Sirius pendant, or is the wiring hidden in the cables?
Power runs through the aircraft suspension cables themselves, so there is no separate hanging power cord dangling alongside. That is the detail that keeps the look clean over an island or a reception desk, and it means the only thing you adjust at the canopy is cable length through the push pin connectors.
