1) Can the WAC Archetype 4 inch LED pendant be hung outdoors under an open soffit or exposed porch?
Yes. The Archetype pendant carries a Wet location rating and an IP65 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so it can go in exposed outdoor positions as well as indoors. It is hardwired and ceiling mounted, so it needs a junction box at the mounting point.
2) How low can the Archetype pendant hang, and do I need to buy extra rods for a high ceiling?
Out of the box it hangs from 14 inches up to 120 inches. Three 12 inch down rods and one 6 inch down rod ship with it, plus 10 feet of wire to reach that 120 inch maximum. If your run needs more than the rods supplied, additional down rods are sold separately.
3) Will this WAC pendant mount to a pancake junction box?
It will. The canopy measures 6.5 inches across and the fixture runs on 120V AC LED technology with no separate driver or transformer to hide, so it sits on a shallow pancake box. 277V, 240V, or custom color temperature versions are available by special order.
4) Does this pendant meet California Title 24 and Dark Sky requirements for an outdoor project?
Yes on both. The Archetype pendant is listed as Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, and it is a Dark Sky fixture, which matters for exterior lighting ordinances that limit uplight. It is not Energy Star rated and is not ADA compliant, so do not spec it where a wall-projection ADA limit applies.
5) What dimmer works with the WAC Archetype LED pendant?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The integrated LED is ELV dimmable and gives smooth, continuous dimming on that control type. A standard incandescent/TRIAC wall dimmer is not the right match.
6) How much light does the 4 inch Archetype pendant put out and what color is it?
800 lumens at 10W, in 3000K warm white, with a flood beam spread through a white acrylic diffuser. One integrated LED, rated 54,000 average hours, and the lamp is not replaceable because it is built in.
7) How big is the Archetype pendant body, and how many do I need over a long counter or walkway?
The pendant measures 18 inches high, 6 inches long and 4 inches wide, with a 6.5 inch canopy. At 800 lumens each with a flood distribution, these are accent and path-scale pendants rather than a single-fixture solution, so plan on a run of them spaced along the span rather than one over a wide area.
8) Do I need to order bulbs or a driver with this WAC pendant?
Neither. The LED is integrated and included, and the fixture runs direct on 120V AC with no driver or transformer required. All you supply is the junction box, an ELV dimmer if you want dimming, and any extra down rods beyond the four included.
9) What is the fixture body made of and will it hold up outdoors?
Aluminum hardware with an acrylic diffuser. Aluminum is the usual choice for exterior pendants because it does not rust, and the sealed IP65 construction keeps water out of the LED housing. Finish offered is Black.
