WAC Lighting WAC-5311 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the WAC Interbeam 5311 landscape accent light need a separate transformer?
Yes. The 5311 Interbeam runs on 12V low voltage and the power supply is sold separately. WAC lists its stainless steel outdoor landscape transformers as the recommended match: 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W) and 9600-TRN-SS (600W). Input range on the fixture is 9-15V AC, so a run with normal voltage drop still works as long as it stays in that window. At 6W each, sizing is straightforward: twelve fixtures draw 72W, which a 75W transformer will not leave headroom on, so step up to the 150W for a typical multi-fixture tree-uplighting run.
2) What is the difference between the WAC Interbeam 5311 and the 5411?
Brightness, and nothing else about the form factor. The 5311 is the 6W Brighter version at 475lm; the 5411 is the 3W Bright version at 245lm. Both are the same Interbeam body with the same adjustable optics. Order by part number, because the two are not field-convertible. For uplighting a mature tree or a two-story facade, the 6W 5311 is the one to spec; for low shrubs, planters and short wall washes the 3W 5411 is usually enough and lets you put more fixtures on one transformer.
3) Can I change the beam spread on the Interbeam accent light after it is installed?
Yes. An adjustable dial on the fixture sets the beam anywhere from a 20 degree spot to a 60 degree flood, with every step in between, so one part number covers both tight tree-trunk grazing and wider facade washing. That is the practical advantage over a traditional MR16 accent light, where changing beam angle means swapping the lamp. Aiming is handled by the knuckle, and glare is controlled by a shroud that rotates a full 360 degrees.
4) What comes in the box with the WAC 5311 Interbeam, and what do I still need to buy?
Each 5311 ships with a detachable shroud, a mounting stake (low voltage only), a 6ft lead wire and direct burial gel filled wire nuts, and the LED is integrated so there is no lamp to buy. What is not included is the 12V transformer and the low voltage cable for the run. The fixture is hardwired rather than plug-connected.
5) Can the Interbeam 5311 be mounted on a wall or deck instead of staked in the ground?
The stake supplied with the 5311 is for ground mounting, and the fixture is not reversible-mount. The knuckle lets you aim it where it sits, but it is not built to be flipped and hung inverted, so plan on a ground or grade-level position and aim up from there.
6) Can I dim the WAC 5311 Interbeam, and what kind of dimmer do I need?
Dimming is smooth and continuous, but only on a Magnetic Low Voltage (MLV) dimmer wired on the line side of the 12V transformer. A standard incandescent or ELV dimmer is the wrong control for this fixture. If the transformer on the run is not MLV-dimmable, the dimmer will not do anything regardless of what you put on the wall.
7) Which color temperature should I pick for the WAC Interbeam, 2700K or 3000K?
The 5311 comes in 2700K and 3000K, each in Black or Bronze. 2700K reads warm and incandescent-like, which is the usual choice for residential tree and facade uplighting where you want to match existing halogen landscape fixtures. 3000K is slightly cleaner and holds up better against masonry, stone and commercial entry lighting. CRI is 85 either way, so color rendering on foliage and brick is the same. Pick one temperature for the whole property; mixing 2700K and 3000K in the same sightline shows.
8) Is the WAC Interbeam 5311 available in a bulk pack for a multi-fixture job?
Yes, each finish and color temperature is offered as a single fixture or a twelve pack. For example, 5311-27BZ is one 2700K Bronze fixture and 5311-27BZ-12 is the twelve pack of the same thing. The twelve packs exist in all four combinations: 2700K Black, 3000K Black, 2700K Bronze and 3000K Bronze. For contractors and property managers doing a full perimeter or a row of tree uplights, the twelve pack keeps the finish and color batch consistent across the install.
9) Can I replace the LED in the Interbeam when it fails, like swapping an MR16 lamp?
No. The Interbeam uses an integrated high-powered LED with no replaceable lamp, which is the whole point of the design compared with traditional MR16 accent lights. Rated life is 70,000 hours. When it reaches end of life you replace the fixture, not a bulb, so for large installs it is worth keeping a spare or two of the same finish and color temperature on the shelf.
