WAC Lighting WAC-TK-180501-30 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Solo LED monopoint be installed on a wall, or is it ceiling only?
The Solo monopoint head mounts on a ceiling or a wall, in any orientation. The driver sits inside the 5 inch round canopy, so it covers a standard junction box without a separate remote driver location. It is hardwired, not plug-in, so you need a J-box at the mounting point.
2) Will the WAC Solo LED monopoint work on my existing dimmer?
Dimming works on an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer, smooth from 100 percent down to 5 percent on either type. It is a 120V line voltage fixture drawing 8W. A 0-10V or DALI control will not dim it, so if the room is on 0-10V you need to change the control.
3) Can a WAC Solo monopoint go over a bath vanity or in a covered exterior entry?
Damp location rated and ETL and cETL listed, so it can go in a bathroom over a vanity or under a covered exterior soffit or porch. It is not wet rated, so keep it out of direct rain, spray, or an uncovered exterior position.
4) Does the WAC Solo LED monopoint meet Title 24 and Energy Star for a California job?
Title 24 compliant, CEC listed, and Energy Star qualified, and it is also flagged ADA compliant. That covers the three boxes a California permit set and a utility rebate submission usually ask for on a residential or low ceiling commercial fixture.
5) How much light does an 8W WAC Solo monopoint actually put out, and what color is it?
800 delivered lumens at 8W, in 3000K warm white with a CRI of 90. The 90 CRI matters if you are lighting artwork, retail display, or millwork where color has to read true. It is a single fixed color temperature, not tunable, so every head on the job will match.
6) What finishes does the WAC Solo LED monopoint come in, and can I match it across a building?
Three finishes: Black (TK-180501-30-BK), Brushed Nickel (TK-180501-30-BN), and White (TK-180501-30-WT). All three are the same 3000K head, so a property manager standardizing across units can run one finish per building and still order the identical fixture. The Solo family also comes as a 3 light and a 4 light fixed rail if some rooms need more than one head off a single box.
7) Should I use a single monopoint or a fixed rail for track style accent lighting?
Use the single light Solo monopoint when one J-box feeds one aiming point, such as a piece of art, a vanity, or a display case. Go to the 3 or 4 light Solo fixed rail when you want several heads fed from one junction box, which saves rough-in on a ceiling that is already closed. Either way the driver hides in the canopy, so there is no remote driver to find a home for.
8) Is the LED in the WAC Solo replaceable, or do I throw out the whole fixture?
The LED is a high powered replaceable module, and it ships installed, so nothing else needs ordering to make the fixture work. Rated life is 50,000 hours, which is what a facility gets to build a relamp schedule around instead of swapping fixtures.
9) How big is the WAC Solo monopoint canopy and how far does it hang off the ceiling?
The canopy is 5 inches round, and the fixture measures 5 x 5 x 5.21 inches overall. That 5 inch backplate covers a standard round or octagon box, and the 5.21 inch figure is what to check against clearance in a low ceiling or a tight soffit before ordering.
10) What is the WAC Solo monopoint made of and will the finish hold up in a corridor or bathroom?
Housing is die-cast aluminum with a translucent acrylic diffuser over the LED array. The die-cast body is what carries the heat away from the module, and the damp rating covers bathroom humidity. The acrylic diffuser spreads the multi-LED array so you do not get individual diode hot spots on a wall wash.
