1) What does the 8 inch long cowl on a WAC landscape accent light actually do to the light output?
The 8 inch long cowl extends the shroud ahead of the lamp, which raises the cutoff angle so the source is hidden from view at more angles and narrows the beam. Use it where glare is the complaint, for example uplighting near a patio, walkway, or window line where the fixture would otherwise be seen directly. It is a glare and beam-control accessory, not a lamp or optic change.
2) Will the 8 inch WAC long cowl fit my accent light, or do I need to match the fixture size?
You have to match it. WAC makes the long cowl in mini, standard, and grand accent light sizes, and the 8 inch version is the one for the Grand accent light. Order by the size of the accent light you own, because a cowl sized for a mini or standard housing will not seat on a Grand.
3) Do I have to remove the cowl that came on the WAC Grand accent light to install the long cowl?
Yes. The long cowl replaces the factory installed cowl rather than stacking onto it. A thumb screw is supplied to lock the new cowl in place, so it is a hand install with no additional hardware or rewiring.
4) What finishes does the WAC 5211-LSHR long cowl come in so it matches the rest of my landscape fixtures?
Three finishes: Bronze on Brass, Bronze on Aluminum, and Black on Aluminum. For a property where every path and accent light is already bronze, either bronze option keeps the look consistent; the difference between them is the base metal, not the color.

Since it bolts on in place of the factory cowl with the included thumb screw, you can retrofit existing WAC Grand accent lights in the field without pulling fixtures.
7) Is the WAC 8 inch long cowl a lamp or a wiring accessory?
Neither. It is a shroud for the front of a WAC Landscape Grand accent light. There is nothing electrical to it, no driver, no lamp, and no leads, so it does not change the fixture's wattage or voltage. One cowl per fixture, held by the included thumb screw.
