1) Will the WAC HT-809LED track head fit my existing H or J track?
No. The LHT-809LED is built with an L-style track adapter and only mounts to L track. WAC offers the HT-809 head in H, J/J2 and L configurations, so you have to order the version that matches the track already on the ceiling. Check the run before ordering, because the head cannot be converted between track types.
2) Do I need a separate transformer for this low voltage track head?
No separate transformer. The HT-809LED has the transformer concealed inside the fixture, so it runs directly off standard 120V track. The transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is what allows an LED lamp to be used on it.
3) Does the WAC HT-809LED come with a bulb or do I buy the MR16 separately?
The LED version ships with the 8W MR16 LED lamp pre-installed, one lamp per head. The non-LED HT-809 version is sold without a lamp. Socket is a bi-pin ceramic GY5.3, so a standard MR16 LED or halogen lamp fits if you ever re-lamp.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC 8W low voltage track head?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. On an ELV dimmer the HT-809LED dims smoothly down to about 10 percent. A standard incandescent or leading-edge dimmer is not the right control for it.
5) Can I use the HT-809LED track head in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only and is an interior fixture. Anything exposed to damp or wet conditions, including covered exterior soffits and shower areas, needs a damp or wet rated head instead.
6) How much light does the 8W WAC HT-809 LED head put out, and is it enough for retail accenting?
450 delivered lumens at 8W, 3000K warm white, with a 35 degree beam classed as narrow flood. Center beam candlepower is 929. That is a typical accent output for retail merchandise, artwork and hospitality display work rather than general room illumination.
7) How far can I aim this WAC track head once it is on the track?
The head swivels 350 degrees horizontally and tilts 90 degrees vertically on a swivel yoke, so you can aim it anywhere from straight down to horizontal along the run. A mesh back vent handles heat dissipation, and the body is die-cast aluminum.
8) How much space does the HT-809 track head need below the ceiling?
Figure on about 6 inches of height and a 2.39 inch diameter body, with a 3.13 inch length. In tight ceiling conditions or where the head sits near a cabinet or shelf, that 6 inch drop plus the tilt swing is the clearance to plan for.
9) Does the WAC HT-809LED meet California Title 24?
It is CEC listed, but it is not Title 24 compliant and it is not Energy Star rated. For a California job where the fixture has to count as high efficacy under Title 24, specify a head that carries that compliance.
