1) Will the WAC HT-826LED track head fit my existing track, or do I have to match H, J or L?
You have to match the track. The HT-826LED ships as an L-track head with an L-style adapter, and WAC offers the same fixture in H, J/J2 and L configurations, so order to whatever track is already on the ceiling. It runs on 120V track. Mixing adapters across systems is not something you can field-convert, so identify the track profile before ordering.
2) Does the WAC HT-826LED come with the lamp, or do I order an MR16 separately?
The LED version arrives with the MR16 lamp already installed, one lamp per head, on a GY5.3 bi-pin ceramic socket. The non-LED HT-826 is the one where the lamp is sold separately. Re-lamping later is done from the front without tools, and the socket takes either an MR16 LED or halogen lamp.
3) What dimmer do I need for the WAC HT-826LED low voltage track head?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The 8W LED head dims smoothly to 10 percent on an ELV control. A standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong control for it, and that is the usual cause of flicker or drop-out on a low voltage head with a built-in electronic transformer. The transformer also has a 1W minimum load, which is what allows an LED lamp to run on it at all.
4) Can I use the WAC HT-826LED track head in a bathroom, covered patio or walk-in cooler?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only and is an indoor fixture. Damp areas like an enclosed shower, a covered exterior soffit, or any refrigerated or high-humidity space need a damp or wet rated head instead. Retail floors, hotel lobbies, offices and residential interiors are what this one is built for.
5) Is 450 lumens at 8W enough to light retail merchandise or artwork?
For accent work, yes. The head delivers 450 lumens at 8W in 3000K with a 90 CRI lamp, which is the color rendering you want over merchandise, food or artwork where color accuracy is judged by eye. The 3000K is a warm white that reads residential or hospitality rather than clinical. It is an accent spot, not a general ambient source, so plan head spacing accordingly.
6) How far can the HT-826 Dune track head be aimed once it is on the track?
350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, adjusted with a loop back aiming arm. That is enough to pull a head off a wall wash and drop it straight down without moving it on the track. The lens cap screws on and a clear lens is included.
7) Does the WAC HT-826LED meet California Title 24?
Yes. The head is Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California spec or permit set will ask for on a residential or commercial lighting package. It is not Energy Star rated.
8) How much room does the HT-826 track head need below the ceiling?
Plan on 5.5 inches of height, 4.5 inches wide, 3 inches long, with a 2.5 inch fixture diameter. That is the drop to allow under a track run in a low-ceiling residential space or under a soffit, and it is worth checking against any sightline or head-clearance concern before the track is set.
9) Do I need a separate low voltage transformer for the HT-826?
No. The transformer is built into the fixture and concealed inside a polycarbonate case, so the head drops onto 120V track with no remote transformer or extra can. The body is die-cast aluminum with the polycarbonate transformer case and track adapter.
10) How often will maintenance have to re-lamp these in a hotel or retail space?
The lamp is rated for 25,000 average hours. At roughly 12 hours a day of retail operation that is several years between lamp changes, and when the time comes the MR16 pulls from the front without tools, so a maintenance tech does not need to take the head off the track.
