Modern Forms FR-W1811-54-GH/WG – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Aviator FR-W1811 ceiling fan be installed on a covered patio or porch?
Yes. The Aviator FR-W1811 carries a Wet Location rating with UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings, so it can go on covered patios, porches and other exposed exterior locations as well as indoors.
2) Will the Aviator FR-W1811 fan work on a sloped ceiling?
Sloped ceilings up to 30 degrees are covered by the included mount. The fan ships with a 4.5 inch downrod for standard ceiling heights; steeper slopes or taller ceilings need a longer downrod, which is ordered separately.
3) Does the Modern Forms Aviator ceiling fan come with a light?
No light is fitted as standard. The Aviator ships with a cover that conceals the luminaire opening, and an integrated LED luminaire, part number F-1811-LED, is available separately if you want the fan to double as a light source with continuous dimming.
4) What control is included with the Aviator FR-W1811, and do I need to run wiring for a wall switch?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle comes in the box, so no additional control wiring is required. A hardwired wall control is not included. The fan also runs from the free Modern Forms app and works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI.
5) How much air does the 54 inch Aviator fan move, and is it enough for a great room?
Airflow is rated at 7074 CFM from three 23.5 inch ABS blades on a 54 inch span, set at a 14 degree pitch. That is enough output for large living spaces and great rooms, and the reversible DC motor gives you six speeds plus winter reverse.
6) What finishes does the Aviator FR-W1811 smart fan come in?
Three finish combinations: Graphite with Weathered Gray blades, Matte Black, and Matte Black with Distressed Koa blades. Blades are ABS in all cases, so they hold up in the damp conditions the Wet Location listing allows.
7) Is the Aviator FR-W1811 Energy Star qualified for a utility rebate or green spec?
Yes, the Aviator is Energy Star qualified, and the DC motor is what gets it there. For projects chasing sustainable or rebate-eligible equipment lists, that plus the 120V input is the spec line you need.
8) Can I standardize several rooms on the Aviator and control them together?
Yes. The Modern Forms app supports grouping, scheduling, breeze mode and adaptive learning across multiple fans, and units can also be driven from an Android or iOS wall-mounted tablet over Wi-Fi. Useful if you are fitting out a whole floor or several units and want one control scheme.
9) What voltage does the Modern Forms Aviator fan run on?
Standard 120V line voltage, so it drops onto a normal residential or light commercial branch circuit. The DC motor is fed through the fan's own driver, which is why it runs six speeds and is quoted as up to 70 percent more efficient than an AC motor.
10) Is the Aviator ceiling fan ADA compliant?
No. The Aviator FR-W1811 is not ADA compliant, which matters where a fan is specified in a corridor or low-clearance area governed by protruding-object rules. In open rooms mounted on a downrod at normal ceiling height it is not usually a factor.
