WAC Lighting 6701-27BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the WAC Decibel 6701 bollard come with a transformer, or do I need to supply one?
No transformer is included. The Decibel 6701 is a 12V low-voltage fixture that needs a magnetic or electronic power supply, sold separately, and it accepts 9 to 15V AC input. Budget for the supply and size it against the 8.2W (8.3VA) draw per fixture when you lay out a run of them on a pathway.
2) How does the Decibel 6701 bollard mount, and can it be set into concrete?
It ships with a guardian spike accessory for direct staking into soil, plus a 6 ft lead wire and two gel-filled direct burial wire nuts so you can tie into a buried low-voltage run without a junction box. For a hardscape or concrete pad, WAC offers a separate concrete pour kit, SKU M6701-CON-KIT, which is not included.
3) Can this bollard be installed where irrigation or pressure washing hits it?
Yes. The Decibel 6701 is factory sealed to IP66 and wet-location rated, so sprinkler spray and high-pressure water jets are within what the enclosure is built for. It is also UL and cUL 1838 listed, the low-voltage landscape lighting standard, which is what most inspectors want to see on an exterior 12V run.
4) Will the WAC Decibel 6701 dim on my existing landscape lighting dimmer?
It dims only on magnetic low voltage (MLV) control. Paired with an MLV dimmer it runs smoothly down to 10 percent. It will not dim correctly on an ELV, TRIAC-only, or 0-10V control, so match the dimmer and the transformer type to MLV before you wire the zone.
5) What color temperatures and finishes does the Decibel 6701 bollard come in?
Two color temperatures, 2700K and 3000K, each available in black, bronze, or granite. All six combinations are built. For a property where you are matching existing path lights, 2700K reads warmer and closer to halogen; 3000K is the cleaner white most commercial exteriors standardize on. Granite is a stone-like finish that disappears into planting beds.
6) Is 365 lumens enough for a commercial walkway, and how wide does it spread?
The Decibel 6701 puts out up to 365 lumens at 90 CRI through a frosted glass lens, with an 85 degree beam spread. That is a low-level downward wash meant for pathway, garden, and architectural accent use, not area or parking lot lighting. Space fixtures for overlapping pools of light rather than expecting one bollard to cover a wide walk.
7) Will a die-cast aluminum bollard hold up in a coastal or de-iced salt environment?
The body is K-alloy die-cast aluminum, chosen for corrosion resistance, with the electronics factory sealed behind an IP66 enclosure so salt-laden moisture does not reach them. Aluminum is the standard landscape bollard material for that reason. In heavy salt exposure, the finish is the wear item before the casting is.
8) Is the Decibel 6701 bollard hardwired or does it plug in?
Hardwired. The fixture leaves the factory with a 6 ft lead and two direct burial wire nuts to splice onto a buried 12V landscape cable run off a magnetic or electronic supply. There is no plug and no cord-and-switch option, so the low-voltage trunk has to be run to each location.
9) Does this bollard qualify for an Energy Star rebate program?
No. The Decibel 6701 is not an Energy Star listed fixture, so it will not satisfy a specification or utility incentive that requires Energy Star qualification. It is UL and cUL 1838 listed and IP66 rated, which covers the safety and wet-location side of most exterior low-voltage specs.
